Imagine, the honesty in society. You can check up on prospective dates. Crime is incredibally low in this environment.
What can I say? Incredibly naive.
Do you honestly believe privacy laws are meant to protect criminals? Or increases crime? Or that in such a society crimals could and would (be able?) not hide their acts?
In an enclosed community where everyone knows each other you don't need privacy laws. Why not? You know who you are dealing with and probably what they do with what they know about you.
Privacy is the right to hide information about yourself from people you don't know, (or don't like), who may use it to meddle with you life against your wishes
I can't keep tabs on everyone who has information about me, or what they say or do with it. I can be affected by it.
If you remove my right to privacy how will this stop people from messing about with me?
It only makes it easier for people to fuck with you!
How much spam, junkmail, abuse do you want?
I don't want everyone to know religion/hobbies/whatever because I can't trust people I do not know.
Privacy is not about dirty little secrets, it's about a horde of little things about you which all add up to you, your persona, your life. Knowledge is power and I prefer to choose who to show my vulnerable side.
Think, before you post please!
before they tried to register the domains?
Probably not, but then I think the decision is #$%^:).
If you can't register a domain quickly it will be gone, so not the refusal of the registration should be issue (Judge is right there are alternative companies) but the delay.
anyone have more info on this?
Come on, this cant' be a serious idea.
With the increase in mobile computing, you can't expect anyone to have his/her computer in a fixed place...
Besides you can use a proxy that's not in the same location as you are, so that won't prove your identity either...
"to copyright or not to copyright". That's not the question:)
Reading the posts here I think most people agree that copyright is nesscesary and won't go away.
Copyright (and patents) exist to allow peoples (and companies) to make money. In itself that's not a bad thing.
Ofcourse how long a work should profit from protection is extremely important.
If say we had a maximum of 5 years to copyright profits from sale could still be made (aplenty methinks). Giving copanies, authors whoever, time enough to come up with something new.
Of course free distrubution would be marvelous but you can't force people/artists/whoever into it. Many people rely on existing distribution sytsems. And spreading it around for free doesn't seem to be a healthy way to make a living to a lot of people for some reason:)
They deserve the choice to change the way they spread their product.
At current the "greed part" of copyright seems to be dominant, 95 years is next to infinity in human
terms, the only ones who profit from such a long time are people who had absolutely nothing to do with the creation of the work!
Because of the low cost and accessability of the technology (IT), it is no longer a question of getting ahead of the competition, but more of not being left behind. In fact this has probably always been the case but now the whole survival process goes much faster. Inevitably it is not only the most fit companies which survive, but this also affects the employees. Hence the long hours and stress. And just to cheer you up, it'll get worse before it gets better. Doesn't it always?
Oh dear... Yesterday I gave someone directions to a shop where he could buy a crowbar he _could_ use to break into an office or something. I think I'll just turn myself in...;)
