He says: my problem is with calling it a donation and trying to present it in a way that tries to blur the line between donating to Mandrake and donating to open source projects. Out of the entire Mandrake distribution, I'd guess that less than 30% of it is actually work done by MandrakeSoft themselves, while the remaining 70% is work done by other open source projects. Up until now, I've seen MandrakeSoft's willingness to put their distribution up for free for all (unlike other vendors) was their good faith and good will towards the open souce community, and their way to contribute back in a big way. I mean after all, think of all the money they've made from retail sales and deployment of corporate solutions over the years. You don't see them sharing the spoils with various open source projects that make their distribution, sure I realise that is unpractical, but if they want to put up some kind of contribution page, they should have it state clearly that it is for people who don't want to purchase the retail and want to give back. Also eliminating the automatic price of $19.99 that pops up would show that they are not trying to sell something...
Sorry but what I did, gaining administrators access and never logging in, is not going to need psychological help. I'm perfectly sane. I made a bad choice. I regret it. I have done volunteer work for the district, I have tried to make up for what I did. I don't see how I fucked things up for you. I don't see how I'm disjoint from the real world, I did not blame my actions on others. The world would be a better place if people like you didn't respond to comments where they know no background, if they didn't accuse people of being things that they aren't.
I don't know what assurances I can give you... I delieved "The Times" as a paperboy for a year and a half and I can tell you that it isn't always right on top of the news. This did happen about a week ago.
I can also tell you that the crimes that he committed were serious. There are three different stories about what he did, they all involve him changing grades or selling administrator access. One has been verified by a teacher who I trust, that it the one that I told.
In a whole school assembly he began to talk about what happened and how the students should respond, what they should do if they see this happening to anyone else...
At some point he just could take anymore and just broke down. For a principal in our district he is rather young and he didn't know what to do.
The entire administration believes that they had nothing to do with this. He showed his head because he believe that he was 100% right in doing what he did. Apparently his conscience got the best of him.
Not that I believe that they did do that much wrong, but anytime a child resorts to killing himself, something went wrong.
There were three before him, two were caught, I was one. Believe me, when I was suspended they were _very_ nice to me. They said "He has shown that he is very bright in this area, but as a policy we must suspend kids for 10 days." One of the things that I feel that they can still improve is to offer more options to kids. There are no ways for a gifted student to use computers in a constructive way in this school besides word processing.
When I was suspended they asked why. I said because there was nothing else for me to do. I still believe this. If I had something more constructive to do I woul not have gotten in trouble (I now administrate 3 linux boxes and have written much code for Everydns.net).
With similar options open to me last year I would not have a suspension on my permenent record.
Apparently the school has not offered more options for students who can do more than use powerpoint and word.
10 days is the highest punishment you can get short of being expelled. The district (West Windsor Plainsboro) is anal about this stuff and always over reacts. When I got into their systems last year (I am a student) I got 6 days but that was only because they found out with 6 days left of school.
I live in this school district. I was suspended last year for a similar attack (I got Admin access but I didn't do anything with it, then I moved onto running linux and OBSD and found myself here). I was also threatened with jail time. It was a very empty threat.
The district web site has a little blurb about it which I think is very out of place.
I have heard various things about what he did. From what I can piece together: He was getting Cs and Ds. He cracked into the school grade system (called SASI), changed his grades, and changed some of his friends grades. He may have sold access.
The main other thing that I have learned was that the principal of the school was really shaken and broke down in front of the school.
If anyone wants any questions anwsers reply and I will do my best.
The pizza "joke" is that people used to buy Theo pizza. To quote from zeus.theos.com/deraadt:
I like pizza. A good phone number to call is + (403) 531-3131. I like their medium vegetarian deep-dish. They take VISA and MC. My address is a provided a few lines up. Ok, scratch that. Now they won't take foreign VISA/MC anymore! ARGH! I need an alternative.. Please don't order from George's Pizza near my house -- they sell garbage.
THIS TREATMENT IS NOT LICENSED FOR USE IN THE FOLLOWING COUNTRIES. AUSTRALIA , EUROPE, NORTH AMERICA. (Emphsis theirs)
I think that they sum it up fairly well. I like that they call Europe and North America countries. This and the fact that their counter shows 414 hits and a few must be from slashdot. I would not take this as truth in its current form.
I'll see what light I can shead on it. I can't get fourth first row. I'm looking at this in a different size browser window but when I make it your size...

Just type out the addresses of web sites that have it. So instead of go to OpenDVD.org to get DeCSS, put go to http://opendvd.org to get CSS. Its not linking.
They haven't released the source because a big company (AOL) who owns them stepped in and stopped it because of how it could hurt the Time Warner Music Group (AOL just merged with Time Warner). Nullsoft is no longer aloud to develop gnutella and so they haven't been. The plan was to release source at 1.0 but that release will never come because of AOL stepping in. In an IRC chat log on the gnutella web site (somewhere) deadbeef the creater of gnutella talks about how he would love to zip the source and DCC it to everyone in the room but that would be impossible because of AOL's stopping it.
The reason the source hasn't and won't be released is because of AOL so don't blame it on nullsoft, deadbeef or gnutella.wego.com who only picked up the web site afterwords.
The protocol has been fully reverse-engineered but only released with the windows client. Basically gnutelladev.wego.com deals with current generation clones and gnutellang.wego.com deals with extending the protocol to add new features. Capnbry did all of the reverse-engineering and he hangs out in #gnutella on EFnet so if you want to talk to the guy that did it he is the one to ask.
Maybe even your remote control will turn your TV off with a new ICMP packet They say that Larry Wall wrote some perl code to turn the lights in his house on and off. I could see this is where computers begin to get used, around the house doing tasks that humans don't want to.
The reason their servers are overloaded might be because they are being DDOS now. I'm not sure this is the problem but the same thing happened yesterday and they were being DDOSed then.
I don't see how that is being bigoted or not rational, I simply pointed out the irony in the fact that as a study on Free Software you would think that they would use free software. I'm not saying that I wouldn't have done it the same way but I feel (maybe just me) that they are sticking their collective feet in their collective mouths.
I got the intel Anypoint version (1 mbps), it was very slow had no linux drivers and was unstable (more than Windows normally). It was a bad buy in all respects. If at all possible I would recomend drilling holes in your house and ethernetting it. If that is not an option than you could try (for a lot more money) to go wireless, they're really cool but not really worth the investment if you can just stick to ethernet.
I prefer MiniDiscs personally because storage is cheap and they work through many different kinds of recorders (computer, handheld, big thing for next to the reciever). I have no idea about if the computer recorder works under unix be it would be an interesting hack. Overall I think that since they can play MP3s along with other types of media that they are much more flexible and a better investment overall.
I agree. In the same way that Microsoft has pushed its browser, AOL/Time-Warner could push its music or videos or... The key here is that they haven't yet and might never. We should keep an eye on them as should the DOJ because they have the ability to be much worse than Microsoft.
I think that its hard to use sane password policies with products like l0phtcrack for download and long term use (if you don't mind using cracks).
As a system administrator would you like to know that some kid could come to his Dad's office and sniff network passwords? Technology is a dangerous thing and while I think L0phtcrack is great under certain conditions, it can be used to hurt people/buisnesses. Put yourself in a Sysadmin's shoes.

Strom, as the Senate President pro tempore, is fourth after the pres, vice pres, and the Speaker of the House.
They're not counting the President.
Specifically where in Central NJ? Depending on where you are in relation to me we could see if there are some college kids who want to get involved.

They just closed port 2300 try 80 or 113, not web pages really but it shows that it is up. Well that and the fact that you can ping it.

The ironic thing is that I believe that those graphs were made in Excel. I doubt you could get less open source or free than Excel.
The problem is that they are asking 395 bucks for it. I think it is a great idea, but I would wait until the price comes down.
