I'm going to throw my $0.02 in for LibraryThing. They use more than just Amazon.com to pull the information from, including many national and university libraries (though with accessible records, that is). So if you're cataloging non-US books it's of great use. Plus, you can input your own covers (which helps me since so many of my books are pretty old and have been reprinted two zillion times already).

I've read the manga. It's pretty good, if long. Trying to condense that down into a two hour movie wasn't entirely a good idea. They played up the puppet master too much for my tastes in the movie, which was more of a b-plot in the manga. BTW, the manga is published by Dark Horse, and you should be able to buy it at your nearest comic shop, or if necessary, order it at a bookstore or online. It's really easy to get.

Well, as someone who's been an animation junkie her whole life... and this includes being exposed to anime at the age of eight, this what I happen to like:

I believe someone mentioned Batman: The Animated Series. An absolutely fantastic show, the only Batman worth watching. The newer Batman episodes are okay, but they really aren't as intriguing as those first few seasons, more of Batman Lite. Same with Superman, can be a little drab sometimes. But it's still a damn good show (compared to many of that other crap ::cough::MaxSteel::cough:: on the WB.

A good show that died too early: Gargoyles. Good animation, interesting characters, a load of mythology and literary references (Macbeth!).. how could you not enjoy it? Then they had to go and make that abomination they call a third season...

I have fond memories of almost all MTV animation, but especially Aeon Flux, which had to be some of the weirdest sh*t I've ever seen. I know Peter Chung is doing a Japanese show called "Alexander," would anyone have information on this?

Wow, other people remember Invasion America. And I don't have cable anymore, so I missed out on that. But it was good, even if the effects weren't all that great and it started out slow... I really wish we'd get book two.

I want my fourth season of ReBoot already. Movies just don't cut it.

Movie-wise, I admit my affection for Heavy Metal. It's pretty good toward the end, once you get past all the gratuitous sex. The best part is the stoned aliens...

I know Heavy Metal is canadian, so I'm just gonna mention another decent Canadian movie: Rock n' Rule. Dogs and Rats evolved into sentient lifeforms! A David Bowie lookalike trying to raise a demon with music! How could you notbe amused?

Okay, on to anime. I did not like Ghost in the Shell very much. Granted, it was pretty, but it was rushed and shallow, and the ending just kinda left you there. And it's so Neuromancer. (That one's for everyone who called Titan A.E. unoriginal.)

Akira is light on plot but insanely fun. And I suspect everyone who didn't like Evangelion didn't understand it. That's perfectly alright. But there's just so much there to think about. Serial Experiments Lain is fantastic.

I can't think of any other good adventures, though I heard good things about X.

I liked Titan A.E., even if I did guess what the Titan did way too early in the movie. But it was fun, and the joke at the end rocked my world. Don Bluth should be proud.
