  1. Free Artistry on Is The Net At Fault For Illegal Filesharing? · · Score: 1, Insightful

I realize this isn't in the spirit of capitalisim of which I'm a strong supporter of, but why don't the people and yes, I mean you, me and our mothers, just do away with the RIAA and MPAA?

Think about it, it used to be artistry was done for the love of art. If you got paid for it, it's because someone else's love of your art. Plays, concerts, paintings ( images ). If the artists and the public agreed to remove the greedy middleman, then the problem would be resolved. Easier said than done, I know.

So let people distribute all media types free and clear? It exposes people to more art, all types of art. Through the p2p file sharing I've been exposed to many types of art I wouldn't have been previously exposed to. Some I liked, some I didn't. If I liked it enough, I become a fan and may wish to pay for it. Whether it be to attend a musical concert, go see/buy a movie, or wish to attend an art museum to see good art in real life.

The sooner all people accept the fact that the sooner all information in any form is free and available to the public, the sooner everyone wins. ( Except for of course the RIAA & MPAA. )

I'm not condoning violence but I'm not against taking the offensive either. The person who waits for danger to come to them, your life, your rights, whatever, is the person who has no one left to defend his rights/life with him. You're saying why should I take the fight to them? Your view is they're the 'bad' people and everyone should know this so we should become victims to prove it?

    Look to history.
Forgive me because I'm going to mangle this quote. Here goes anyway.
Why should I say anything against them taking the Jews? I'm not Jewish.
Why should I say anything against them taking the Catholics? I'm not Catholic.
Where is everyone to help me now that they're taking me?

This is the problem with pacifist thinking. If you wait until someone challenges your personal rights directly it's already to late. Aggression that violates your rights must be squashed at first sign else there will be no one to fight by your side when they come for you.

This has gotten a little off topic, I just merely wanted to present my opinion on the philosophy of waiting for trouble to come to you

Of course you haven't seen Bush at a Microsoft function. Not only is he an extremely busy man, he's an oil barron, not a software barron. ( That's our boy Perot! )

He's all about using that 50 years out of date internal combustion engine so we have a good reason to continue fighting in the middle east! Oh and allow his oil barron buddies to keep making the big bucks in Texas too.

( Note: Yes I'm aware that the fighting in the middle east involves more than oil, but it is a major factor. )

It's not M$ updating my computer with security /bug patches that's the problem here, it's M$ apparently having the right to determine what I have on my computer, steal that information about my software and privacy without me even knowing it.

I don't but what if I had a pirated copy of a M$ product, or better yet a pirated copy of a Adobe product and M$ is scanning my harddrive for illegal software to sell the information to Adobe so they know they I have their copy of their software and could try to sue me? Where's my legal protection there?

What's to say they couldn't do something else with this statement that's beyond my imagination at the moment? Anyone remember the clause in the Frontpage agreement that stated you were not allowed to make negative comments towards M$ using Frontpage?

This especially bothers me because I just installed XP pro 2 days ago. :( I read through the license agreement and don't remember seeing this however I didn't read it that closely either.

    Where's my copy of RH...?

And why would this be a bad thing? You're basically saying that this would prevent the uneducated from voting, I don't see the problem. Right now we're allowing the most uneducated to vote on issues that pertain to today.

What responsible and educated descisions can anyone lacking at least a college education make about the important issues that concern our nation and our politicians today?

    • Cloning and the Genome project.
    • Almost all internet issues.
    • Microsoft monopoly or not and implications of open source in the economy.
    • Space funding.
    • Current economics, other than 'Hyuck, lower taxes!'
Heaven forbid should we acknowledge that all men are not! created equal and that this countries voting, legal and politics are not working properly.

Don't get me wrong, I love this country, I'm damn proud to be American and it's no questions asked the best country in the world but I believe the American people need to be willing to accept real changes to our government. Look at how this world has changed significantly in the last 200 years. Do we use anything else in our lives that was made 200 years ago? Oh I'm sure examples are out there so save your fingers the typing.

I don't mean to sound like a conceded prick but recently graduating from a university I'm probably closer to realizing than many 'older' people that a high school education these days is insulting. You can literally sleep through high school, turn in no work and obtain a C average for showing up.

I'm sure you can make a 1000 arguments about how this would continue the uneducated/poor downward spiral and blah blah blah. Maybe I'm just fed up with supporting the people in this country that don't support themselves. I work damn hard for my money and worked damn hard to work myself through college, to want to just give it to people that have no desire to better themselves.

All men are NOT created equal, but I do believe men ( and women of course ) should be given an equal chance at succeeding in obtaining an education and gaining the priveledge! to vote. But I'm rather sick of living in a country where it's 'ok' to not succeed. How bout we raise that standards bar back up a little and make this country #1 again in education

    Sorry for the rant.

If the paper was done by President Bush, then it would be 'good' time. If it was done by Colin Powell, it'd be 'good' time. However, the person who wrote this paper isn't spending 'good' time writing a paper on the economics of an online game. Their spending 'their' time on it. I don't know if you're a troll, trying to be funny or actually serious with this post but regardless of which I'm using it to respond with my own bit of my own constitutional rights. And I do not mean free speech.

First I'll let you know right off that in the spirit of America hating America is alright. Think about what this country would be like ( and many in this world are ) if you didn't have the right to express Anti-American ( politics, economy, foreign policy ) sentiment.

More importantly however is that I'm fully capable of being an American without being Christian. As I've so noticed especially with our God bless everything president we have right now what most people interpret Freedom of Religion to be freedom to choose your christian sect. Which admittadely is what our founding fathers meant when they wrote the constitution.

So if you actually were serious with your post and not a troll or just not funny, stick it in your ear.

I'm proud to be an American.
    I'm proud to be atheist.
