  1. Re:Dead end for MMOs? Not hardly. on The City of Heroes Expansion & the Issues of User-Created Content · · Score: 1

But that is no different than the core content in the game itself. I can walk through paper missions on the highest difficulty with my Brute. I have walked through standard Arcs with ease and never run into a problem. To claim that this element of AE is broke is to say that the game is broke in general. High end players farm task forces for merits and purple drops, why is that ok, but if a Player runs through a mission with only bosses then there is a problem. I sympathize about your slot getting locked, but that's part of what I am saying. If they fix the notable bugs, minions giving boss xp or NPCs not being able to shoot, the rest will present itself with time. Instead though of focusing on the bugs they are pointing their finger and spending energy going after Farmers. With competition months away, they need to focus on polish and less on the farming, because it will happen with or without the AE. Consider this as well. Even without the exploits you will still level up faster in the AE. With no travel time and having the hospital next to the mission generator you can get in and out of action much faster than you ever could in the standard content. If they really want to stop farmers then make farming a less efficient alternative than running normal content. At the same time though, maintain the risk versus reward ratio for standard and custom content.

I understand, but the problem was the bugs in the system and not the system itself. NPCs helping players should automatically reduce the amount of xp per mob based on the strength of the NPCs. NPCs killed after being hurt by bombs should give less XP. All these factors have been corrected to an extent. I agree rewards for players playing your mission led to to much exploitation. Instead of going crazy though and continually addressing the farmers and blaming them, they should of fixed the bugs and learned on how to improve the experience. As it stands their heavy handed post about farming just made the situation worse. Fixing the problems and enhancing to the AE to fill the gaps and correct the holes would of been much better use of time. There is allot they need to do restore faith in the AE. They have to get players interested in the content instead of making them fear a ban for playing a mission with to many spawn groups or a high number of AVs or Bosses.

I disagree. No one will play the game if some reward isn't presented. The point of playing an MMO or Persistent world is to constantly strive for a goal. Whether it be leveling, getting new gear, or unlocking new achievements. If the AE offered no experience or reward players would spend their time farming task forces and grinding through the sewers to level their characters. It did get exploited however more so because of the bugs that were left in the system rather than the content itself. Fixing those bugs should of ended the trouble, but they are continuing to work on removing farmers instead of enhancing the AE with features that will encourage players to not min max or farm.
