Freecycle is a great place to go to get rid of stuff. Believe me, someone will want it. And you can usually arrange for them to pick it up. Find a local chapter, join the group and then post your offer. You won't get any money for it, but maybe someone could use it.

I don't have any kids, but I think Nova ScienceNOW is a great program. I think its by Neil DeGrass Tyson. It's on PBS, highly entertaining, simple enough for anyone to understand, but not condescending. Here's the website if you want to check it out. They have some streaming video.
