  1. pretty cool, but... on Super Tiny Espresso PC · · Score: 1

what I really want is a small server box for my small apartment. The idea: 1) There's no more room in my apartment for another full sized computer (even the vaio SlimTop is too big). 2) I have a shared T1 into my apartment and have various server needs: firewall, web server, app server, maybe routing for the apartment LAN. 3) It's gotta be cheap. Since it's a server, it will run headless. So no need for peripheral support-- sound, video, USB etc. I could install FreeBSD or LInux on Espresso, but it doesn't fit criterion 3 well. A lot of money is being wasted on the video, sound etc. Also, Espresso is a little smaller than is absolutely necessary and I don't want to pay for that last little bit of miniaturization. My ideal box would have the form-factor of the Linksys router http://www.linksys.com/scripts/features.asp?part=b efsr41 or maybe a little bigger. It would be CHEAP, US $200-300, use a not-cutting-edge processor, older Intel or AMD chip, have built in ethernet, several gig HD, support up to 256 MB RAM and support a lot of free OSs: Linux, FreeBSD, Darwin. Anyone seen it? If not, does someone want to start a company?
