"Open source" is a noun (well, not exactly, it's a noun phrase or something, but is used as a noun) and "open-source" is an adjective. so it's open-source software and open source as a movement or as source files that you get with your open-source software.
very simple.

actually, in europe they do that. well, not shops and not exactly free, but still: you just have to sign to their service for a year and the operator give you a phone. and these services usually aren't much worse then normal.
well, it's exactly the same in many other ares. whenever you're buying things or stuffs in great quantities, it's impossible to ensure that there will be absolutely no defects. therefore, an agreement is needed as to the amount of crap that can get into it. in this case you're buying a lot of pixels.
but yes, they could get a higher price on a 0 bad pixels guaranteed model.
It depends on whether you're talking of an organisation, company, band, whatever it's singular and if you talk about the people who are the members of the.org,.com, whatever, then it's plural. like,
police is an organization for law enforcement.
police are fine young lads with helmets on their head.
well, I know where it was, but that's not the point here.
the whole point of my post was that the argument "it's not bad that americans don't know where germany is because germans don't know where massachusetts is" is crap.
forget the world influence. check out the size:
massachusetts is the size of slovenia and has the population of slovakia. well, how many americans know that these countries exist, let alone where they are or that they are in fact two different countries?
z.
and again, this has nothing to do with americans being stupid. but the equation "US:Germany=Germany:Massachusetts" stinks.
massachusets is also an independent country of 80 million people, which has influenced world history for centuries and has been at the center of two world wars. also, many germans have/had grandfothers that fought or died in massachusets, and many more come from massachusets families.
oh, and let's not forget the boston wall and the reunification of massachusets which have been all over TV for last ten years.
not trying to say that americans are stupid or anything... but massachusets to germans ain't what germany should be to americans.
i use CLI when i have to, but GUIS are really superior. not fancy stuff, but just the ability to point and click and not retype a file name that got scrolled of the screen.
Having to... remember what particular action happens when you a drag an icon from place X to place Y is NOT a good UI.
well... this was solved five years ago (by MS anyway, i don't know if they invented it). in win95, drag and drop with right button and a menu opens, listing all actions, with the defaut action bolded.
hmmmm... wait, you say "not correct" and then repeat everything I said... it's all a personal choice, and that choice is what is called "politics". So he has the right to feel that redistribution is wrong, but I do reserve the right to think he's wrong.
hmm... not that I really care about the holy american constitution but what does that have to do with patents?
z.
heheh... I replied to the wrong post. do some mental transformations.

well, i just upgraded my machine, got a new mobo, processor and everything, and then stuck my soundblaster pro in it. go figure.

gotta agree there...
remember back when application had *every* command they supported listed in the menus? including bold and italic?
i miss those days.
sure, i'm all for toolbars and context menus, but i want a reference of *everything* a program can do, so i can find and try all the thingies.
i'm sure most ms word users have no idea that there is a very useful "calculate" command in word. they took it out of the menu in word 95, IIRC.

as far as I know, the other two are liberia and burma, not anywhere near south america.
Not logically wrong, but morally wrong.
