If this passes we will see lots more innocent people prosecuted...
Despite the unemployment rate, there actually is a labor shortage. The use of prison labor will help immensely in controlling things like the costs of care for the aging baby boomers and other unskilled occupations currently using undocumented workers. Might even keep social security above water for some time to come.. We need to lock up as many people as we possibly can. An 'innocent' person is simply too difficult to manage or control. They want too much money and freedom. It's just not sustainable
The GOP is little more than the old racist democrats that flipped over back in '64 in reaction to the passage of the civil rights act. And the 'new' democratic party is really nothing more than a bunch of syndicate thugs. Both are equally fascist, under the control of big business..
This is just one more instance of the new American business model of making more and more people criminals.
Sure is refreshing to see some logic in all this stupidity.. Where too many people think the first amendment 'goes too far' in protecting one's rights, and these same people will tell you torture is ok... Dark times ahead...
There is nothing difficult about it. And the tech makes no difference. You regulate how people physically react to what they see and hear. You don't put a cork in a person's mouth because you don't like what they are saying. You go after the one who uses what they said against them. In other words, attack the one who listens and acts on hearsay, not the one who speaks it. Do not confuse the verbal with the physical..
Which again makes the browser completely irrelevant to this conversation.
That might explain why I didn't mention the browser, no?
I have no choice but to trust those who have that amount of control over my machine.
Correct
...but they don't get my credit cards, SSN, email, etc.
You sure?
Really, what was your point?
You said it.. trust no one.. Trust nothing you can't verify.. Otherwise feel free to take your chances, but until you can verify it, you won't convince me that you have any privacy in networked communications... You can only trust that you do.. In light of the legislation being passed over the years around the world, especially some that is passed in secret, I would suggest that your trust is misplaced. A rubber stamped warrant is all it takes to hang you high. In fact no warrant is needed at all. Executive decree, secret or otherwise, will will suffice.. As far as privacy goes, we live in a very dark age.. That, sir, is my point.. Control of your software is a feel good measure, nothing more.
Look in the hardware, where the trade secrets hide out.. There is nothing to protect you from that.. In fact the law already protects them from your attempts at discovery... I shouldn't need to spell that out..
Don't know yet.. They 'burned the tapes'... The lessons of Watergate did not go unheeded.. All the remaining publicly available evidence is purely 'circumstantial".. Everything else was destroyed or classified..
Keep it coming baby! Prisoner #416 has always been disruptive and deserves everything he gets!
This little experiment has confirmed the big experiment, and you all are living proof. I really do thank you (mods) for your input. Very very enlightening..
Prisoner #416 coped by going on a hunger strike to force his release. After several unsuccessful attempts to get #416 to eat, the guards threw him into solitary confinement for three hours, even though their own rules stated that one hour was the limit. Still, #416 refused.
At this point #416 should have been a hero to the other prisoners. But instead, the others saw him as a troublemaker. The head guard then exploited this feeling by giving prisoners a choice. They could have #416 come out of solitary if they were willing to give up their blanket, or they could leave #416 in solitary all night....What do you think they chose? Most elected to keep their blanket and let their fellow prisoner suffer in solitary all night.
I'm saying you cannot by default consider everything the government says and does is illegal or untrustworthy.
Yes you can, and when dealing with coercive, secretive authority, you should ALWAYS default towards that direction. This little paper on the the nature of nature clearly illustrates why...
You're right about one thing, failure to comply will usually lead to violence, but it won't originate from where you think it might. Sounds to me like you would blame the victim. In that light, I can no longer consider this a serious discussion... The message you are sending is, "Prisoner #819 is a bad prisoner. Because of what Prisoner #819 did, my cell is a mess, Mr. Correctional Officer."
Looks like an old c-band to me.. Probably to catch the wild feeds of 'Married with Children'... You get a whole week's worth at once without the commercials.. Thank goodness we got 'im before he could blow up Bundy Fountain.
:-) The official storyline will not tolerate any challenges today.. I am very impressed by how this is playing out amongst people (particularly the mods) who believe they are more 'logical' than genpop (outside of Slashdot). This should make for a reasonably interesting journal in the near future. Actually it will make for a very lively discussion in the university behavioral studies.. It should revive interest in the books that were written almost 80 years ago by crazy German psychologists..
Lots of mod bombing by the coalition on this one.. Geeze people! I know you all wanted the OJ trial to end this way, but you're carrying this a bit far

YAY! My golden ticket to get off the plantation!
You're a free man now
No general, I's expensive!
How could the experiment work if I can't see the results? Did you read the links?
Oh, and thanks for your contribution!

Thank you, I'll make a note of it...
How do you make it render on Slashdot? Using two dashes is very... uncouth..
Gee fellas, I was wondering when you would get around to 'discovering' that... Waddya find? some TSA guy patting down the kid?
You do not, control, your privacy.. Your hardware and service provider do.. aieet?
Nothing to do with open source..
Look in the hardware, where the trade secrets hide out.. There is nothing to protect you from that.. In fact the law already protects them from your attempts at discovery... I shouldn't need to spell that out..
The browser application has only the data I allow it.
You really think you have that much control? I can assure you that you don't know if your entire disk has been uploaded or not..

Oh.. here.. This is an even better illustration of your thoughts..

What is the purpose of the Satellite Dish?

There is only one legal source for such a thing. Your offer could be a felony :-)

He's was hired hand that knew how to herd cats.. for a short time anyway... Let's give credit where credit is due, shall we?

I would imagine the fascists and profiteers are laughing even harder.. OBL's bit part is over, I mean, aside from the public's obsession
A most interesting way to get from Atlanta to Denver.. Where can I get a ticket?
:-) Look in the mirror my friend...
