  1. Re:So is Manufacturing Cost. on Handspring To Release 65k Color Visor · · Score: 1

I most say that I do agree with you about the manufacturing costs and such. It is more of a catch 22 scenario though. People are into things that are little and sleek. Many people bought the Palm V and continue to do so. Why? Because they like the way that it looks. The upfront cost of visor retooling their machine shop to accomadate a new case design would be incredible. However, if they do not they cannot produce what many consumers want, a small sleek pda. It seems like they are screwed if they do and screwed if they do not.

  2. Why I think it is a good idea... on On Microsoft Porting to Linux/Unix · · Score: 1

First I would like to say that this is not intended to be flamebate. Linux has a been and will always be about choice. One of the nicest things about linux is that you are not tied to one application just because it is the only thing available. Even if MS does does ports their apps to linux, users will have the choice to install and use it if they want to.
Secondly one of the biggest problems facing linux as a viable desktop is the lack of a familiar and compatable office suite. Windows has an approximately 90% share of the market. The vast majority use ms office as well. If MS could port their office apps to linux then users would have familiar and 100% compatable office application. This would help to bring more useres to the linxu community which would help to persuade vendors to include better linux support. Of course it owuld not be open source, whcich is less than ideal, but it is tolerable. Even if you feel strongly against closed source software you would still havea choice.
The second thing that this could help bring linux to the desktop is a good web browser. In all honesty IE out performs Netscape in many ways. Again this woule help bring more users in.
    That is my 2 cents

I do not think that anybody is calling her stupid because of a "perfectly common accident". However, they are calling her stupid because she sued because of a "perfectly common accident". Lawsuits came into exisitence to help "people" recieve compensation due to a mishap caused by the negligence of another group, not to award damages for a "common accident". I have a hard time seeing how McDonalds was at fault. It is common knowledge that coffee is hot. I do not need a label to tell me that. Anybody who assumes that coffee is not hot either 1. Is expecting iced coffee or 2. Is stupid. That is why I think the old lady was stupid. When we start suing for "common accidents" there will be serious problems.

I think that you misunderstood what he was saying. The bug can be exploited. However, since Windows is closed source it is not as easy to find the bug in the code. In some ways this "hidden" bug scares me more then any of the reported bugs. Someone may discover a serious bug in NT and decided not to tell anybody. Since the source is closed it may be a while before someone stumbles upon the same bug. During which time the person could have used the bug and exploited unsuspecting victims. -Jombi Meccha Leccha Hi Meccha Hinee Ho

  6. This is a suprise......Why? on Indianapolis Restricts Display Of Violent Games · · Score: 5

I am not sure why anybody would think that this is shocking. You have to be 17 (legally) to see and R rated movie. You need to be of age to look at "adult material" (ie porn). Why should a video game this is violent or sexual in nature be any different? I am not endorsing this kind of law. I do not think that I should have somebody tell me what my kid can and cannot see. However it is not a surprise to me either. J

  7. My 2 cents.... on Busted for (L0pht)Crack Possession · · Score: 2

I have to say that I do not feel bad for these two people. The possession of LophtCrack alone did not do the damage. I am sure that the authorities are not going to come knocking on your door if you happen to own a copy of the software. The two jokers did use the software for something that was against the law and they deserve whatever punishment they get. -Me
