I'd argue that the value of copyright is priceless - without it, MOST non-richardstallmanesque entities would cease to be incentivized to create desirable work for public consumption.

As much as I agree with the ends you're trying to achieve, we've got to get beyond substantitively fraudulent analogies if we're going to win in the long-term.

Your analogy is consistent enough to hold water at most marketing-based office conversations, but at a low-level, we both know it breaks down: However juicy the meta-comparison may seem, there is a world of difference between user-generated ascii content and the latest episode of Heros; If we pretend not to see this, the Real Decisionmakers(tm) will see us as hippies and thieves and we'll lose this battle too.

    hush! hush!

Your comment is far too logical, rational, realistic, and practical for any of the nerd androids to comprehend.

SO true Seahawk, and I'm glad you pointed it out- honestly 90% of this slashcrap is masturbation, it is a byproduct of creative minds, geek-droppings, if you will, that aren't going to cease excreting.

Personally, if they continue to crank out useful products like apache and linux, who cares if they wank here all day- just don't rattle their cages too much.

One of the worst movies ever. This movie was horrendous. It was cheezy and just predictable.

btw, I am a HUGE comic book, fan and I loved the Sixth Sense.
The Sixth Sense was a friend of mine:
    "Unwatchable" is no Sixth Sense.

(This of course all assumes that yall can actually read this story, and that your filters aren't all set to save all Jon Katz material to /dev/null )

  13. if you walked into the theater, you can't complain on Movie Review: 'High Fidelity' · · Score: 1
I am astounded that anyone would even enter a theater and pay money to see a movie like this. I've seen the 2 minute trailor, and 'High Fidelity' is so obviously a formulaic 80's love movie with the usual 2 or 3 variables thrown in. In this instantiation of LoveStory, foo = "old records" and bar = "John Cusack." And of course the whole class implements Predictable: Lemme guess- John Cusack gets the girl in the end... Who gives a shit?

My definition of a hippocrite is someone who complains about the movie 'Junior,' a movie about Arnold Schw. getting pregnant. This is the best possible movie that could be made about this innane subject matter. People are like, "hey, I saw that movie and it SUCKED!!" I say: "What the hell do you expect?? You went to see a movie about Arnold getting pregnant!"
