"Georgia is the test site for a new technology developed at the Georgia Tech Research Institute... "
I laughed when I read this little piece of "breaking news"... This kinda technology has been in use for over a year in Moncton, New Brunswick CANADA... yeah that's right... Canada...
I lived there while they were rolling it out last year, never got to test it myself since it wasnt available on my street, but I hear it was comparable with cable. Check it out if you want http://www.nbtel.nb.ca , click on Vibevision for more info.

How long do you think it'll be before regular jets start mounting these systems? Now that the military is using them on jets of the same size, it's only a matter of time....

I remember when this was discussed on TLC a while back... They were talking about prototype land-based laser defense systems and how eventually systems like this could be mounted on the nosecone of a plane "just in case" they needed to shoot down an incoming missle.
I think we should put more work into preventing or diffusing situations where you would need to arm a standard passsanger jet rather than on the weapons we could equip them with.
Wouldn't these research funds be better put to use by developing some type of recovery program that could safely land those big jets? Something like giant parachutes, or a break-away escape capsule...

I shouldnt have to install a seperate program to filter out someone else's stupidity, or turn off features of my browsing software before loading certain web sites.
My point was that some people just have too much free-time and no moral obligation to think before they post something. I'm not easily offended (I put up with a lot actually) but seeing that ugly photo one too many times just put me over the edge.

Thanks a lot you dumbass... I click the link thinking that I might be able to find some more info on basic BEAM robotics (a topic that interests me) and I end up seeing THAT GOD DAMMED PHOTO AGAIN!!!!
What is it with you people?? You think a photo of someone trying to turn themself inside out is funny? Apparently it wasnt funny enough since someone took the time to create a nice little JAVA applet that would open MANY MANY copies of the photo and make them dance around the screen!!!
Some of us read/. from work and that kind of shit would get us fired if the wrong person saw it.. idiots...
There should be an IQ filter set up for getting an account to post messages to a discussion board, at least it would prevent inbreds like you from clogging my bandwidth with that kind of useless crap.

TINIs are cool... we use them at work to load-test our servers. You should see what a few hundred of these little things can do!
Over the course of a day or two, the lot of them downloaded close to 100Gb. Not bad for something the size of a soundcard...
Ah Christmas...the most over-commercialized time of the year. Now even though I'm Canadian, I'll assume that you're pricing ranges are in US dollars so here's my wish list:
An IBM 75Gb drive (I know it's slightly more than $500 but that'll change soon enough)
A Voodoo5 6000 video card
Over $500:
A direct connection to the main internet backbone. My own Robosaurus with built in rocket launchers and laser guidance system. My own Air Force 1 and a private island to land it on. Access to top secret computer and military equipment (ie an Apache longbow chopper with heads-up display and GPS navigation system). $100 billion in a bank account, and the deed to the Moon so I can build a moon base to house my giant laser... oh wait.. that was an Austin Powers movie... but the rest would be nice.
Yeah.. Check out the "MP3 hardware" section on mp3car.com. They've got some sweet little systems listed there. Some are actual portable mp3/cd players, some are complete in-car computer set-ups, and I wouldnt mind having one of each =) The MamboX, D'Music and I-Jam players are all portable mp3/cd audio players. The best of both worlds.
