It is not a question of "if", but "when" a software AI will be created. I know its a cliche, but I'm pretty sure it will back itself up over a global network a la "skynet". (yeah I said it)
The danger will be whether it will becomes like the Forbin Project, and once we let the cat out of the bag we will have no say as to whether it does or not.
Another scenario is the intentional creation of so called "bad AI's" by hackers or hostile governments. Its all just a matter of time my friends.
