The United States imposed sanctions on Iraq, ruled by Saddam Hussein who dosen't give a rat's butt about his people. He gasses his ethnic minorities by the thousands while living richly off of oil sales. Yes sanctions are imposed against countries that invade their neighbors, have active chemical and biological weapons programs, suppourt terrorism, and kill their own people.
I personally believe that such actions require much greater action than just sanctions but there is not a political will to invade Iraq. Plus we might accidently kill some people if we did.
There are programs to provide food and medicine to the Iraqui people. Saddam Hussein is not letting UN Arms inspectors do their job and has consistently played hide and go seek withthem when they were there. The death of ANY people in Iraq is on the shoulders of It's leadership. I'm completely certian that if the government of iraq were different the countries of the civilized would would welcome it with open arms.
This year we were to give upwards of 40 million to Afganistan. What would we give to a free, rationally acting Iraq?
These PCBs flow throught the environment, they move through organisims over time. They are in my fat, they are in YOURS they are in ALL of ours. they are throughout oue environment. These chemicals were made in such large quantities because they are so massively unreactive. The result of this is that they don't decompose at all. They build up over time in the animals of the world until they are eaten by sharks or polar bears or US. in large quantities they can cause reproductive problems or deformaties in offspring. That means Children. It's amazing that in America where children are idolized more hasn't been done to stop export and more research hasn't been done on the effects of PCBs.
The laws with handling these chemicals are NOT the problem, Solar and wind based technologies are not the answer. Viable alternatives to using PCBs in cooling of transformers is the answer. No matter what the cost. We cannot afford the cost of PCBs.
Research needs to be done to ensure the saftey of the thousands of new chemicals produced every year.
The problem is that these substances are not dangerous all the time. Some are only dangerous during fetal devlopment, Some during puberty. Many inhibit the immune system or act like estrogens in the body. Most build up in the food chain through a process called environmental magnification. Ther is no way to "Cleanse" ouselves of this poison. It is in us and when we breast feed our children it will be passed to them in concentrated form.
Chemical safety has been analogous to "innocent till proven guilty" for far too long. we need to make sure these chemical mistakes don't happen in the future.
I'm not a huge regulatin nut but I find this scary. Some of you might like the book Our Stolen Future. It has some scary and fascinating facts about this problem.
Hows about 6.1 million pixels? Here's an SLR with Nikon lens compatibility, octagonal shaped pixels in a honeycomb pattern, takes both CompactFlash and SmartMedia cards, And comes with a 2 inch LCD.
This camera is the Sh17. And only $4k before buying lenses.
Obviously this camera is not for everyone. It is a specialized professional tool. However it is also a very useful tool for many people. More and more pros are moving to digital because they don't have to mess with developing and can get to press faster. With these resolutions, digital is quickly approaching the usability of 35mm for enlargement. Art photographers find the convenience of going straight into photoshop or gimp very useful
Why was this posted? Of the hundreds of hardware reviews put online every day why did this make the cut to be posted on the main page of slashdot? This is six to eight month old hardware, there are not 3d drivers for linux for it, the article dosen't even have any linux benchmarks. What's the point? It's really disappointing to see slashdot go down hill with what seems like a very large number of reposts of previously covered topics or very old news. I'm beginning to wonder if there is a "quota" of posts to the front page that needs to be filled. I do have a question I havent seen answered sufficently for me. Does the "dualhead" feature work under linux? That seems to be the major selling point of this card for right now. Especially since this card is very hardware dependant for performance (needs a high horsepower chip) and even then the Geforce still wipes the floor with it. Then again most of the people on this site seem to not be interested in the hardware one-upsmanship so prevalent in 3d gaming. The 3dfx cards work far better with 300mhz class machines and have linux drivers! I'm a hardware geek and this post just irked me. I'm not trolling, I just am dissappointed in a website I check religiously and have been reading for over a year.
No you are spouting crap
