  1. The True beauty of the internet on Shawn Fanning's Account Of Napster · · Score: 2

Napster is a throwback to the original structure of the Internet. Rather than build large servers that house information, Napster relies on communication between the personal computers of the members of the Napster community

Honestly i think that is the best line for ANY of the P2P applications out there right now. The internet has become rather vast and company orientated. finding just something amusing or some odd bit of information is a pain in the ass. Just think of what could be accomplished by merging a newsgroup style listing with P2P applications. Finding your music would be a snap, finding that odd ball info would be as ez as connecting to a group that might have it. the scaling problem of Gnutella might even have a chance of being fixed. There is no greater resource than people and P2P applications take advantage of this. Imagine a app thats a cross between Ask Jeeves and Gnutella. You ask a questoin, other people see it, if they know the answer they might answer you with it.

  2. Make Piracy the vendors problem on Implications For Software Like Napster And Gnutella? · · Score: 2

Instead of worrying so much about the piracy thing, how bout a way to prevent it? i know there are some very skilled people out there that can get around alot of it. Instead of stoping software that is so nice as a sharing tool, why not focus on keeping your software safe?

  3. Music and information both want to be free on The Dark Side Of Napster · · Score: 1

Honestly why they worry so much about the whole cd is beyond me. Granted Napster might bring back the whole cd to you for download. But given the fact that most people don't have broadband access keeps them from downloading the whole cd. Should broadband access become a very real concept in everyhome there will be more then the record companies complaining. Usually you download the hit tracks off the cd and pass over the rest. Or you download a hit off a cd you can't find in your area. This is getting the band exposer, at the cost of them not getting paid for the tune. Much the same way someone hearing a tune on the radio or tv and recording it does. Maybe the record company should embrace the mp3 and start selling mp3 cds. Course what would u play them on? The CD it's self could have a lock file on it for you to copy to a computer to allow the play of the MP3's on it. Still no matter HOW you look at it, there WILL be someone getting the music for free somehow.
