We were getting tought about the 5 layer OSI model, SNMP(Simple Network Mail Protocol), ASCII (the first character set) and many other totally incorrect facts.
I quit URI. I am now going part time at another school and working fulltime at a ISP.
I work for a ISP doing Unix Administration. I am only available part-time(I goto college and I am 17) and there is another tech working during the daytime. I work only a few days per week.
I carry a pager and if a server goes down, I get pages, and I am chosen to fix the problem because alot fo the time, the other Admin need assistance.
If you think about it though, compared to the FPS that are available now, the Sierra games were "text" adventures, even though they were graphical.
First Person Shooters have little text, almost no text and Sierra games, although there were graphics on the screen, most of the time, the text did the story telling.
I would have to agree with this comment.
Napster was probably the best thing to happen to the RIAA. If they want to control mp3 trading, Napster is there best bet. If mp3 trading goes back to IRC(well, that is where I used to do it at least) and ftp sites(another familiar favorite) the RIAA is going to have to try even harder to control mp3 trading, and in my opinion, they are going to fail miserably.
I have yet to try Gnutella, but, I think that I am going to give it a try tonite and see what is it all about....

Good point. Hopefully the people wanting to know more information about methlabs might be a little more selective on their search.
I mean if they searched for "marijuana", I don't see what the big deal. The feds aren't going to check out every dude looking for marijuana on the internet. ( I can't really say the people searching for it probably don't use it, because that is most definately not the case)
I would have to agree with this.
I don't really care where my movements are tracked. I use the web for slashdot, uf, freshmeat, thinkgeek and copyleft. Occasionally other stuff like google if I need to research a problem,/etc. But I mean, so what if they track you.
What are they really going to use the information for? Advertising, I dunno.
I guess I am just trying to say that I am not surprised, oh no, and that I don't see why it is that big of a deal.
You missed the whole fucking point.
You know of a fact that it wasn't tought by a grad student.
You were in my class.
It IS. That was my point. Everything I said that I learned was incorrect.
heheh!
CS at URI was horrible.

Like I was saying, I dont care that the other admin doesnt know it, I am mad that my company, makes me fight for the money that I should have earned.
Now I am getting pages for bouced mail and people who complain because they let there domain expire, while I am at home.
I don't want to not do the work, I just want to get paid justly for it.

I definately would like to form a geek house in Rhode Island.
It is hard enough just trying to FIND people intrested deeply into computers and not just these people that say "I am making a game in C++."
I have found ENOUGH of those kind of people.
I would have to say that I think that is pretty cool.
At least one of the manufacturers of good hardware and one that is well known is finally making and taking a stand against this RIAA crap.
Now only if this would happen with some other things... to remain nameless...
Ok, you have brough up a excellent point.
I am definately giving you credit for that one..
