  1. re: autopc on Are There MP3/CD Player Combinations? · · Score: 1

Sorry about the original post. It seems Clarion did not release support for MP3s in the original AutoPC, but may include the support for MP3s and DVDs in the upcoming AutoPC to be released in the upcoming months. Pending MP3 disputes have caused the reality of this support to wither in the wind. acid

  2. Clarion AutoPC on Are There MP3/CD Player Combinations? · · Score: 1

Not that the forum readers will like this OS on this too much (WinCE), but it does read mp3s and cds and offers a lot more promising technology than any other car audio player on the market. It was originally to be based on the Linux OS (not sure what dist). www.autopc.com acid

  3. Importance on Heavy Gear II for Linux Goes Gold · · Score: 2

The above posted about the importance and relevance of this game. It has been deamed as one of the highest rated Mech games to date for the PC. It is also very fun to play...much better than the MechWarrior series so far (although MechWarrior 4 looked pretty promising). The relevance to this game and Linux is simple...more games on this OS would make it more suitable for the home user. Games help push technology to a new, higher level. They also allow for home users to be more comfortable with the OS. Two main issues I have heard of Linux (other than support of hardware) is the user-friendliness of it is still immature (although we can hope that RedHat stops with the Windows-like popup clouds and helpful hints) and the lack of game support. Quake III marked the first major, post-Quake II title to hit the Linux OS that was a hit...it was the first title to sell a distribution strictly for this OS, to be marketed towards this OS, and to actually do well in doing so. Applaud Loki and Activision for making this game possible and don't question the importance...this is just another stepping stone that Linux is conquering. Loki games is remarkably becoming a large company...their recent HOMM3 port is quite good. acidmax

  4. Re: Hmmm..... on Mindspring-Earthlink Seek Annulment of Marriage · · Score: 2

I work for a company, Knology, who is sister companies with Mindspring (I believe our parent holdings company owns 17% or so of Mindspring). We do, and were the first to do so, Mindspring's Cable Broadband access in two cities that we operate in...meaning we share our network resources, actually providing them with access. I believe this is more widely known as Open Access for you all who keep up with the news. The marriage of the Mindspring/Earthlink for this service has been no trouble at all. The only difference I much noticed in operations was new greetings when on the NOC techs called us or a few new names....but nothing drastic. Our company relationship with them is doing just fine by what I can tell...only few problems ever occur. On a personal note, I only ever had problems with Mindspring when I bought a new Rockwell K56Flex v90 modem and it was not compatible with the x2 v90 technology at the time. I experienced many disconnects an hour (one of the symptoms). They supposedly fixed a bug right at the time my area became serviceable for our cable service, so I never quite saw whether or not the problem was fixed. I have nothing but high notes for Mindspring. Earthlink and Mindspring have not consistently won Best ISP and Best Customer Service/Tech Support for ISPs consistently for the last 5 years for nothing. acid
