What's to prevent this being used by police to block their images when they're beating or otherwise mistreating people?
Police, who protect the people by putting their own lives on the line, are the ones we should be concerned about. Not the gangbangers, murderers, rapists, and thieves who could potentially use this to mask their presence when committing a crime. Your statement show's how much of psychological bias you have towards finding the grand conspiracy rather than thinking clearly about a problem. I can't blame you. If all I watched was network television while I ate my happy meal I sure as hell would think 1) All blacks are animals. 2) Cops are evil and hellbent on beating you with a baton 3) The next antichrist will be a corporation. 4) Pillows will replace guns as a means to subdue violent citizens.
Go ahead jump on the bandwagon. But think about this first: How the hell could HP get every other manufacturer to use this technology. What about film cameras from last year or twenty years ago. They'll still work. A law would have to be passed in order to enforce the compliance with this device. Security cameras would more than likely be exempt.
Use your fucking brain before porting senseless drivel.
In the aerospace industry we deal with very expensive space equipment. As a result there are procedures that must be followed so nothing terrible happens. You can see where this story is going... Imagine a satellite, nearing completion, bolted down , and ready for final inspection. Joe Blow forgets to write in the change log that he took the un-bolted the satellite from the base. Workers come in the next day, do some work after checking the logs, and... the satellite tips over. OOPS... a billion dollars well spent. That is 1,000,000,000. "Uhm, boss, the good news is we finshed the satellite yesterday and... I don't know how to say this, but our last two years of work... well, I sort of... well, I tipped it over and it's destroyed.... "
Or how about the contracts guy who forgets one Zero on a contract. Instead of ten million, the contracts reads one million. Of course everyone misses the zero... except the people PAYING. Contracts are signed and oops... "we want to start a new contract, we sort of forgot to add a zero." To which they reply, "Fuck off, you signed it..." and prompty save the company 9 million dollars.
If you are into scary movies forget the Ring. The Grudge (Ju-On) is a Japanese movie in the same genre as The Ring. Ju-On, much like the Ring, is being re-made for American audiences. If you have an all region DVD player buy this movie. You will not regret it. (It helps to have a good sound system since the sounds are really part of the horror)
Ju-On
You might be able to find a used AVID system, however avoid the older versions of MC express that run on the NT platform. In short, it sucks. Microsoft made sure to have the requisite number of bugs as in all MS products. Lean towards a MAC. As much as I like pc's. MAC's have been heavily involved in the Dig. Editing market longer. I have had nothing but pleasant experiences with them. Last, make sure you have a timeline. Some systems don't offer a timeline view. This is a must. (Some toaster systems dont have this) Good luck
