I have had this problem too myself, I have been a Linux user for the past few years.
In my college, the entire network is run on Windows, using Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP on all the desktops.
Apart from one tutor that uses a Macbook, and another that uses Linux on his laptop, all machines are Windows, and there are various problems with the network services requiring a temporary boot into Windows under VirtualBox, mainly to print documents.
