Isn't it possible to disconnect the port when the cable is unplugged? I believe they do this at my mom's work. Of course you have a big problem when you're recovering from a power outtage....
But i believe the switches/routers at her work just disconnect the port whenever you pull the cable out of the machine.
I agree with you that it's a pain to make some things work in both browsers exactly the same. But that's no reason to only optimize pages to be viewed with IE.
For example a computer shop nearby optimized it's hp for IE. With NS the complete page wasn't viewable anywmore, and with that i mean it was completely blank.
I don't think that's the way to go, either optimize your page for one browser and make sure it's at least viewable within the other most used browsers or don't optimize.

I agree, and do they already fixed the problems with db's getting corrupt ? I don't want such a thing hapening to my filesystem.
On the other you could also consider if this is something we really want. Cause a dbms is for, as far as i understood, managing large amounts of data. You could see a file as a large amount of data but my guess you going to use a system for something it wasn't designed for.
Maybe could be handy for people that want to look in the db but don't want to type whole SQL-queries, but for anything else, in my opnion, it isn't useful.
