  1. Stereolink 1200 has Fabulous Sound, USB Hiccups on New External Sound "Card" · · Score: 1

The StereoLink sounds fantastic: good DACs, free of RF and power supply/hd noise. It also has an excellent headphone amplifier capable of driving difficult loads (high impedance phones like Sennheiser HD580, Etymotic 4S). Unfortunately, it suffers from the same thing USB audio has always suffered from: occasional stuttering and hiccuping due to disk access. Stereolink knows this is a problem, and they do their best to help, but hardware makers need to get their acts together with microsoft to provide better support for USB sound. Hopefully now that Creative is relying on USB audio, something will be done about it.

USB problems aside, Extigy is going to be great for standalone 5.1 decoding use with Xbox or PS2.

  2. Cross-border Bill Pay? on On Paying Bills Online · · Score: 1

I'm a Canadian living and working stateside for a two-year term. I've got my US-dollar salary deposited directly to my Wells Fargo account, but I still need to pay Canadian bills (credit card, insurance, phone, car payments) in Canadian funds. How should I go about this? Up until now, I've been writing myself cheques from my US account and deposting them in my Canadian (Bank of Montreal) account when I return to Canada every so often. I then allow the bills to be paid automatically from my Canadian account. I'm looking for a more permanent solution. Is there any service that sends paper cheques in Canadian funds from a US dollar account? Any other Canadians out there with the same problem? -S
