I would think a thrust diverted like that of a jump jet would be easier
I believe that to which you are referring is better known as thrust vectoring
I concur, the idea of a static propulsion system attached to a movable passenger compartment does seem outrageously complicated, though admittedly, IANAAE (I Am Not An Aerospace Engineer).
By your test, nothing is a threat unless it is actually carried out (everyone knew the identity of the person tweeting with such confidence? Like accountants can't kill people?) I suggest you look up what the term threat means, since your expectations are very unrealistic. We typically don't wait for someone to die before deciding that exceedingly risky behavior should be discouraged by way of law.
Uh, no, you're just continuing your original line of jackassery. Ever hear of a little process called 'police work?' it goes like this:
1) person makes potentially threatening statement
2) the authorities do their fucking jobs by investigating the person who made the statement, and determining whether it's a legitimate threat, or if it's just some pissed off citizen venting
3) if, and only if, the evidence supports arrest (i.e., the person who made the statement has a history of violent conduct, or is known to be affiliated with terrorist groups, or any of a thousand legitimate reasons to fuck with someone), then the police can and should issue a warrant.
You are also clearly very naive when it comes to what is required of a civilized society to not break down under the weight of trying to preserve every idiot's right to it.
No, I don't take well to morons who, obviously incapable of anything even resembling cogent thought processes, think of the world in all-or-nothing, black-and-white terms.
I see no reason why this tweet should be protected free speech, it is similar to shouting "fire" in a crowded theatre.
Really, jackass? The reason it's illegal to yell 'fire' in a crowded place is because of the direct harm to life and limb that will occur when the crowd panics and begins stampeding out.
Who got hurt because of this tweet? Who died? Not a damn soul.
Whether a joke or not, it looked sufficiently realistic a threat and the sender should've known this.
Bullshit. Straight up, unadulterated bullshit. This isn't some known terrorist organization making threats, it was a gaddamn accountant bitching about his flight being delayed. Anyone who actually believed this guy was going to do anything other than deal with the flight delay is a fucking imbecile who should be sterilized for the good of the species. That includes you, AC.
Though not enough for years of imprisonment, this is certainly to persecute him and scare the shit out of him to make sure it doesn't happen again.
Right, 'cause the entire purpose of the legal system is to intimidate those who can't afford protracted legal battles into being good, submissive little serfs, right?
Fuck you, fuck the prosecutors who brought this case, and fuck the authoritarian regimes who push such bullshit policies.
I swear I don't know which is worse: The elitist fucks who are working their damnedest to set up permanent police states, or the loser apologists who expect the rest of us to drop trou and grab ankles as readily as themselves.
I know this is asking entirely too much, for which I apologize, but it really helps if you RTFA:
Jet engines located on top of the aircraft in concept illustrations appear to rotate independently of the aircraft so that they can always point forward in flight.
It is cute when people think things that are completely unrelated serve as prior art. Your example is like saying Barney the Dinosaur is prior art to my Purple Popsicle patent.
Yea, how silly of me to think that an application that controls the lights and sounds emitted by a wireless device, based on location, would qualify as prior art for a patent on applications that control the lights and sounds emitted by a wireless device based on location.
I bet those people who were at the Batman premier that were attacked by that gun wielding psycho are sure glad their phones weren't disabled so they could call the emergency services.
Jeez apple, I know thinking different is hip and all but....
It prevents people from buying a phone that has everything that they like about the iPhone, but without being subjected to Apple's walled garden approach.
FTFY - personally, I agree that it's better to not be locked down to what the manufacturer thinks you should be allowed to have access to, but I also understand that's a completely subjective position to hold, so I won't say it's necessarily 'better'; just better for me.
This is exacerbated by Apple's own policies that hinder their customer's ability to make their own improvements to their own property.
Anyone who thinks they actually own any Apple product really needs to give the EULA they agreed to a good, thorough read.
Interesting... If you have a line on any writings geared towards helping an absolute beginner learn to use Drupal effectively, I would much appreciate being pointed in that direction.
Where do they get the idea that pandering to the people who are going to vote for them anyway is somehow going to sway an election?
Because those people aren't guaranteed to vote for you.
Oh, sure they are. Don't tell me you maintain delusions about the motivations of the American electorate?
It's really quite simple:
Environmentalists vote for Democrats, because Democrats put forth an air of caring about the environment.
Business men vote for Republicans, because Republicans put forth an air of caring about small business.
It matters not whether the candidates are being truthful about their intent; very few voters listen to the actual message and platform of the candidates, presumably because the bullshit and sound bites shoved down our throats are more palatable than the truth.
The people who slobber over MPG dictates can vote for the Green party candidate or not vote at all!
In general, the people who vote third party, always vote third party. "Normal" voters don't vote for third party candidates, because they've been conditioned to believe that voting for anyone other than a Democrat or Republican is "throwing their vote away."
Same goes for not voting. "Durr, if ya dun vote, ya dun get to complain!" is a very common, very wrong mentality here in the States, and it's common enough to convince a fair amount of the populace that it's true. As the old saying, immortalized by Joseph Goebbels, goes, "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it."
Sure, you'll always have a couple outliers, but this is the status quo.
You have to at least make appearances in order to attract their vote.
One would think that... which brings a question to mind: How many people who voted for Obama the first time, will not vote for him this time around due to the fact that he not only failed to fulfull many of his campaign promises, but openly broke several of the most egregious of them? I speak, specifically, of his promises to ban lobbyists from D.C., and his vow to have an open, transparent administration free of the clandestine bullshit that came to personify the leadership of his predecessor.
I gave Drupal a shot; not terrible, I think if I work with it enough I'll understand the system well enough to make some damn fine looking blogs... if I were interested in making yet another blog site (I'm not).
While it is the work of minutes to install Drupal and make a blog site out of it, it can also be used to create absolutely any kind of site you want. This is because the themes are scripts, so you can control precisely what is output and what is not both at the page level and for each individual content type. It also has an XMLRPC module so you can use it to backend a flash-based site or what have you. In fact, Drupal is satisfactory for making absolutely any kind of website from the simplest to the most complex. With the caching in D7 it can actually handle the load of being used for a large site, too.
*Most* of what you said there I get, but some of it (specifically the terms 'XMLRPC' and 'caching in D7') went right over my head - apparently you missed the part where I mentioned being a total noob in terms of web programming. I get what you're saying, though - one of the things that attracted me to Drupal in the first place was the apparent ease with which all manner of websites can be created, assuming the person at the controls has more of a clue what they're doing than I currently possess.
Once I get to a point where I'm being asked to set up an eCommerce or other more complex site, I'll probably revisit Drupal, maybe even get a book or two; but for the sites I currently maintain, hand-coding is way easier for me.
Yea, it's a horrifically sparse article, doesn't do Tito justice.
I did some research on the guy several years ago for a school paper, and the one fact that stuck out to me is how he dealt with officials convicted of corruption: They would march the felonious cad out of the courtroom, into the street below, and promptly execute them in front of the waiting audience.
Needless to say, political corruption wasn't too common under Josip Tito's rule.
doesn't seem to describe the anarchic utopia the GP was describing.
If you think what they were describing qualifies as 'anarchic,' you don't know the meaning of the word. Government you disagree with != no government whatsoever.
My uncle is a biological engineer; he was a member of the team who first managed to grow human body parts in rats.
I asked him what he knew about 'The Cloud' the other day; his response?
"How the fuck should I know? I'm a biological engineer, not a goddamn weatherman!"
In a saner world, our educational systems would teach science and technology...
You seem to be confusing "science and technology" with "marketing buzzwords."
If everyone was in a Civic, everyone would be safer than if everyone was in an SUV. Everyone dying is the result of everyone buying the SUV, not the Civic.
If everyone drove a Civic, our economy would grind to a halt, as no one would be able to transport goods, equipment, machinery, tools, etc. that didn't fit into a 2' x 2' x 2' area.
That's what I'm saying - since it's a fleet average, all they have to do is take a higher mileage compact - say, a Dodge Neon - then raise the roof, stretch the back end, rebadge it as a "light truck," and wing-bang-boom, you just doubled the average mileage of your truck division, without having to alter your actual trucks one iota. Dodge meets the new standard and gets to keep pumping out 10 MPG behemoths without batting an eyelash.
Seriously, this is why the PT Cruiser, HHR, and a half dozen other "crossover" vehicles exist. It has nothing to do with customer demand, it's all about cheating the system.
That lack of documentation is pretty much what turned me off of CMSs in general. Like I said, I'm still learning the languages (my last experience was with HTML 1.0), so throwing myself into a complex system like Joomla or Drupal without any real, thorough documentation (that isn't pure jargon) is an instant no-go.
Frankly, I hate CMSs, but that's the way the world is going, so vive la PHP crapfest.
I suppose if I were doing large projects for major clients, I'd probably pretty much have to learn at least one of the CMS systems... fortunately for me, the whole reason I'm getting back into web development is to build simple sites for family businesses (like the one in my sig), to whom fancy widgets and overgrown databases are of no significant importance.
Plus, none of them are "techie" types such as myself, so as long as I don't totally bork the site, they think it's the coolest thing they've ever seen!
I would think a thrust diverted like that of a jump jet would be easier

Well said.

Yes, believe it or not, fingerprints are far more reliable than DNA.
Not true, thanks to a little thing called confirmation bias
Guy is a complete idiot.
Funny, I was thinking the same thing about the people who took him seriously...
Hey - don't bitch, or I'll figure out a way to make an appropriate parody of "The Song That Never Ends"

gotta have that funk (yea)

That supersonic funk

now.. who the fuck wants a phone that gives the keys to control if it's on to someone else?
People that buy iPhones, duh.
I bet those people who were at the Batman premier that were attacked by that gun wielding psycho are sure glad their phones weren't disabled so they could call the emergency services.

Not to mention existing art

Noticed a couple of shots with 2-3 vee-dubs in frame, thought it was kinda funny.
Still rollin' on the DX myself, just upgraded to AOKP's ICS ROM so it's going strong, gotta love that 8MP camera!
