The very fact that the response rate to this thread is so high only means one thing : If he hadn`t done it, people wouldn`t even consider that there could be a problem.

Sometimes history asks for actions which go beyond the abc textbook of comformant laws. Now, I think that french dude shouldn`t get too excited about what he did, but clearly some people think this commercial food game that is played over our heads should be tied down to more thourough inspection, at least, I think that is his primary message. He doesn`t have a problem with anybody called McDonnalds or even with hamburgerfood, he`s simply had it with the american food industry & lobby, which simply takes away his bread on the shelve.

If all you knew was farming, you`d probably try to protect that too.

And if you were a stupid farmer, you might even do it his way. It simply takes blood and destruction to get some measely minutes in the evening news. Thank you to the media for that one.

No, he isn`t right, but that don`t make McDonnalds right either, even if they are the perfect happy company selling perfect happy meals every prefect happy day.

yep. many of the posts expressing som kind of annoyance over this topic got voted down. even though the syntax might be offensive, the general message is that dedicated sites do a much better job at explaining graphics than slashdot ever will. But obviously someone looooooved the bad explanation of this technique.

a link to the nvidia site got rated 4 because it was 'informative'. I say """""please""""". ofcourse it is informative, but people interrested in EMBM are likely to know about this technique long BEFORE they enter their slashdot accounts. Nvidia is the number one gfx hardware firm in the world. If you don`t visit Nvidia.

I don`t mean to claim I can say which article can or cannot be slashdotted, but the fakephong version of this technique popped up around 1995 for the first time in a DOS demo called Juice, which you can download here . So don`t tell me this tech is big news, because it isn`t. The only difference is the tech is now in hardware. Some BitBoys themselves made demo`s in 1989-1993, they knew where to get the juice.

now, let the monkeys rate this rant offtopic, kill my karma, yeah. suckers.

We owe them that debt," he said" I remember one small tiny little firm making personal computers, which are still considered to be more userfriendly. I also remember an obscure company called Xerox to be doing things with screens and keyboards in a basement lab. I even remember having played with specific ibm clones. that actually brought Ibm sales down gigantically. but maybe MY history needs rewriting too.

    Because he did do it.

    Tsha! That darned kiddo..

Nevertheless, it IS pathetic that people don`t see what teenagers mean with their 'difficult' behaviour. I think parrents atleast should have more attention for the problems their kids are causing/having. But seriously, One lousy website. Ugly words! By a kid! Oh no! We`re DOOOOOOOOMed! (now there`s a cute hint)

Anyway, ironically, "Grow Up" fits nicely.

  6. Search and move on on What are Your Programming Goals? · · Score: 1

It`s actually very simple. (Like most good things)

The moment you notice something is wrong (like a driver or a program that has bugs or does stuff the wrong way) and the instant you actually think about fixing or improving the software, you`re learning, exploring paths to go in your mind, making a leap out of normal user-life.

Like someone said here somehwere: the path is your goal.

Maybe you eventually decide _not_ to run down the codemonkey trail, maybe you get stuck, but in the end the experience is allways learning you something. Rather than to complain on forums about non-working software, try to find solutions yourself, helping people debugging, working together.. The really important thing is to allways keep in mind that the time spent should in the end add to something. In the beginning of your newly started guru-life (hoho), that might be very dificult, and only your own hart can (and will) point you into a direction you will enjoy or find attractive. In the end, you`ll have tried a number of topics and things, and gathered a bunch of knowledge on related or unrelated projects and idea`s, and you can try and combine all you know to come up with something special.

It`s really exciting when that happens, but all in all it`s really just about taking a lot of small but interesting steps that will lead you into guru-life. The rest is passion, a clear and open mind, a good sense of humour, lots of hours before a screen and a few good friends you can talk to.

Btw, most guru`s will tell you they are no guru, only very skillfull ;)

  7. Space pollution on Trying to Save Iridium · · Score: 1

Iridium flash is just one problem. Space pollution is another. I heard the sattelites are in pretty low orbit (which is basicly why they are so annoying) so dropping them into the earths atmosphere could solve that problem. The only question is: These are good satellites, why waste them. Irridium orbits ARE known. Apart from blocking telescopes, they are no nuissance to anyone, other than having cost money which now appears to have been wasted. If I`m correct, another sat-company is planning on sending ANOTHER sat-network into space. It would make sense if the first wasted investment isn`t completely redone a second time all over again, rather, recycled. Technically I`m sure things can be done. Legally, strategically and politcally, that`s another thing.. Maybe we DO need the United Nations to atleast have some sort of control over those companies that plan on polluting our space with their ambitious and money-horny programs. I`m generally against any kind of regulations, but when it comes to keeping our planet clean and healthy, we need definiately more responsibility in this world.

But.. that`s enough idealism for today :)
