you develop an a different platform and OS to the live system bloody hell you must have worked for some cowboy outfits - you should always develop on the same system as your live environment ideally on identical hardware at BT we even wanted to have the dev and test servers from the same production batch so as top have exactly the same MB revs - we did allow disks from different batches (though our sysadmin would have preferred not to)
