I don't think you can deny Marathon as one of the best original games in the history of general computing, not just Macs. Granted a lot of games come as ports, but the Mac isn't as much a gamer's platform...as I learned growing up with friends who had PCs. Regardless, uniqueness of products doesn't make a platform. The games that people want already are being made for PCs not because they are easier to work with, but because of the market share. It's a question of profitability. Also, if I remember correctly, wasn't Myst a Mac original? Or am I just on crack?
I've been using the OS 9 Biometric Ident check for a while, you need a decent microphone that you'll always sit the same distance from (volume also important) and don't record it in silence, record the voiceprint in the same atmosphere you'll be using it in. Other than that, it's spiff.
Alright, so sue me, I got my degree in Political Science and Music...Math wasn't my strong suit. Are you finished with my ego, or do you want to stomp some more?
I personally enjoyed the comparison in Stephenson's Cryptonomicon much better. This one is definitely "geared" more toward math majors and actual practicing mathematicians instead of the aveage slashdot geek. Very cool, but the guy needs to work on his prose, IMHO.
Okay fine, but the 100 miles on either end of the journey require a great deal of effort (and fuel!) whereas the time orbitting the Earth is a byproduct of the Earth's gravity well and would be like coasting down the mountains in my SUV (much more fuel efficient than actually driving it normally at less than 18mi/gal).
The original.sig was: "So There I was, naked, in the refrigerator, smoking a cigarette, with a pot roast on my knees, and THAT's when it got REALLY weird. Just ask the three headed newt." But that wouldn't fit, so I shortened it. Contrived? Yeah. Juvenile? Why Not. But it's my sig, so take a flying leap Coward.
So let me get this straight...some guy is paying $20,000,000 to go 200 miles (roundtrip). Let's see. That's $100,000/mi. Compared to my SUV, that's pretty damn economical!
I started using IE 5 for DP4 of OS X and I had to, within a day, download OmniWeb cuz the Carbonized version IE 5 sucked so badly (crashed, didn't display what the HTML really was, etc) it was almost unusable. Granted this is a Developer Preview, but isn't the point of releasing some of the applications in the works so you could see if they'd work well? MS obviously didn't do all their homework on IE5. I'd hate to see a crash-prone version of the Office Suite for Mac. That's a recipe for disaster.
Is the compression still as lossy as MP3? If it's not as bad, and the file sizes are still reasonable, this could be great. So where do I sign for the betatest?
This is a quote from one of MS Games' PR people on MacSlash: "Hi Ben, I got your message about a rumor and I wanted to get back to you asap. There are many rumors floating around with regard to Microsoft and until anything is announced, they are simply that, rumors. As a rule, we don't comment or speculate on rumors. I wish I had more to tell you at this time. Be on the lookout soon for an announcement..." In and of itself not troubling except for that last sentence, which says LOOK FOR MORE INFO SOON. If this were an unsubstantiated rumor, why put that last sentence in?
I gotta pull one out of the "old-skool" files for this one. Dark Castle would on Christmas Eve and Day replace the Suit of Armor in the foyer (level select room) with a Christmas Tree. A definitely cool thing to do. Beyond Dark Castle would do the same. I hope the folks at Delta Tao are listening (hint hint) cause I sure want that egg preserved in their sequel.
There may be international courts, but if ALL the parties involved don't give up their sovereignty there is no enforcement. Enforcement is as much part of the law as anything else. If the law says I can't go over to my local store and steal something, but enforcement doesn't exist, then it doesn't matter if I walk over to Albertson's and steal lunch, because no one will enforce the law. That's the biggest threat to cooperation on the international level, there's no enforcement. Because there is no enforcement, we're stuck in a state of international anarchy because countries are not having the rules of the game enforced. Something may be illegal, but if the law is not enforced, it might as well be legal.
...and what time do they allow Deep Sustained Booming sounds...
Sounds to me like someone wants to play that Organ.

It gives a whole new meaning to "Blue Screen of Death" doesn't it?
I knew there was a drawback on viewing with my threshold at 1. Damn, I've been stupid lately.

He said NOISY. The laptop is so noisy, it wakes the person trying to sleep, not rousts the airplane computer system into a death spiral..

Ouch. Can I have my pride back?

How bout now?

I'll make the note to readd it now. Better?

Go and read the MacSlash article to pick up the quote from Edelman's Joy Nestor (MS spokesman, apparently) about there being an announcement soon.

I thought I was being accurate not funny...damn...I guess I just gotta be more accurate in the future!
I only wish it were. Believe me, I wish it were.
The incident involved a bunch of horny men attacking women in Central Park in New York. You can read more Here
It's a shame Bungie's getting bought out by Microsoft on Monday...none of us may ever see Halo for Mac or PC...it'd go straight to XBox
Does this mean we could scan a photo or movie of Elian Gonzalez in and frag the little puke for dominating TV with his lame-ass whiny story?
