Linus Torvalds just copied the idea of Unix from Ken Thompson, an AMERICAN! Can't people in Europe EVER write ORIGINAL software?
[Oh migawd I can feel the flames.]
How could Linux EVER be better than the ORIGINAL Unix from AT&T? Why I'm not even going to give it a chance, I'm going to get all in a huff about it and start whining about it.
[Flame-bait trolling off...]
Really. There are no new ideas. Every idea you will ever have is based on other ideas from people before you.
1. The writing credits FIRST Michel Poulette THEN Babaloo Mandel and Lowell Ganz.
2. They paid the owner of the story over $1 million US for the rights.
3. The movie was "Significantly" reworked for the American version, to give it Americana flavor and a different angle on the story.
4. Canadians are as guilty as any culture of a failure to be unique. It's inherent in PEOPLE, no mere COUNTRY BOUNDRY can turn off human nature... --
I think that the selection of EDT implies that it autoswitches. There is another EST selection way down the list for the bozo hoosiers in Indiana that never switch to summertime.

We are the flaming, exploding, CGI-movie saturated MTV generation after all. If it isn't bright pink and green, naked, on fire and computer animated, I just yawn and walk away. --
I think part of the "duty" of a moderator should be to decide if the article is "at the right level", not just blind up or down what they like.
If the article is a 4 and you think it's a 3, you should probably leave it alone, if it's a -1 and you think its a 4, act.
Knocking them all to 5 isn't going to happen if the moderators have the restraint to notice that others have already floated the article to the right range... --
Also, Rob has mentioned that hew is considering a threaded toplevel nested/flat rest type mode.
Maybe stuff like Nested@1 Nested@2 Flat@1... thing could be done. Personally I love the threaded overview when the messages go over 100 but when I click into a message set I tend to pick threaded and let it pull the full thread...
OTOH, if/. starts to do everything I want I may never see the sun again... --
Jon's best work is when he drops the pretension and just writes about what he sees.
I get a lot more from his articles when he doesn't try and teach me but just lets me see through his eyes.
When are we gonna get more of his Linux travails? I'd like more of this stuff as well. I'm so deep into the geek world I'm starting to have problems explaining this stuff to my family and co-workers.
A peek into other points of view is more valuable to us than a thousand articles telling where you think it's all going or feebly trying to stir up controversy. We do that by ourselves:) In bucket loads.
Jon: This is the first article of your's I've read word for word since the Linux installs. More of this PLEASE. --

We have more than one alpha in house, and they all run Linux now. One is our Samba server, replacing itself running NT. :)
We see Linux as a free UPGRADE, cheaper than buying a new processor!

This may be the best article yet from Jon.
What ever happened to his Linux box anyway? I was enjoying those bits...

Nope, the 'blindly' (in the justice sense) just look up the name and check it.
If you have 500 hosts on one IP, they count as 500 in their servey.
