This project can become very interesting for companies that rely on old equipment and software, which I think is a huge market.
With Microsoft changing the driver model and the API of Windows with Vista, a lot of applications and devices will not be supported by the latest and greatest from Redmond. This means no security patches/bugfixes for old equipment and software.
If ReactOS can emulate Win2k/XP, it could be used as a secure and supported replacement in those environments.
The biggest problem with UI's and new users or for that matter any user is that a computer has alot of information to give, and not alot of space. New user get confused because they don't know where to look. You have multiple windows, icons, start menus, menubars, etc. Alot of elements containing alot of information. I guess the ultimate UI would be one that would show only the information currently necessary to the user. No multiple windows, no menubars, just what you need: the text your typing or the image your editing, with context menus appearing when you click the mouse or something.
GNOME emulates the Windows GUI to some extent. This is not a bad thing if you copy the good and improve the bad. But what I see is that some known mistakes in the Windows GUI are being copied, for example the close button next to the maximize button. Are you trying to make GNOME look and feel like Windows to make it easier for people to switch? If so, do you think that once Linux is adopted by a majority it will be possible to change the GUI as to make it more efficient? Will you change the GUI?
