Find a local astronomy club! I'm sure they would be more than enthused to do a public outreach viewing event for you. Not only are they more familiar with the night sky, but you can be sure they'll bring everything from 4" scopes up through 20" Dobsonians. Make it an event for not only your class, but all the kids in your school!
You'll get to see a lot more that way.
