If not for Microsoft, this board probably would not exist. It certainly would not receive the attention that it gets. Bill Gates and Microsoft did not invent personal computers, operating systems with GUI, or anything that they sell for profit. They did, however, pick up the ball that Apple, Xerox, IBM, and all of the other Microsoft bashing whiners dropped or ignored. Making computers USEFUL and ACCESSIBLE to EVERYDAY PEOPLE was realized through HIS vision, and that should not be underestimated. Apple had a golden opportunity to never let Microsoft see the light of day, but Steve Job's blew it with one foolish business decision after another. Now people have the gall to blame the big meanie Bill Gates for other peoples' bad judgement. Don't get me wrong. I don't think it's healthy for one supplier to be totally dominant. I would like to see Linux become a player on business desktops and laptops to help foster innovation and improvement and choice. I would like to see Microsoft forced (not by the DOJ) to port Office to Linux. I personally think it will need some User Friendly improvements before that happens in a big way, to say the least. But, I think that will happen. When it does, it will not have happened because of the US Department of Justice. It will happen because of the innovation, vision, and determination of the people pushing Linux.
