Yes, OS X is not updated to run on older machines. But security updates are still provided, and QuickTime AND SAFARI still run on those machines. I have a 500MHz first generation TiBook that is working just fine, including the very latest release of Safari.
It seems a bit premature to go on about how great LED lighbulbs are when they don't seem to be purchasable.
Sure you can buy crappy novelty bulbs -- 15W or 25W replacements. But your workhorse bulbs, your 100W equivalents --- I've never seen any for sale, and a brief web search didn't turn up anything useful.
One day, yes, they will be a great leap forward. Until then, how about we maintain contact with reality?
