Yup! It turns out poorly optimized code in 32 bit mode and I shudder to think what the 64 bit code would look like.
And before you start complaining, that comes from 3 years coding for a graphics company where every clock tick counts. We saw a MAJOR (like more than 20%) difference in execution speed of our binaries depending upon which compiler was used.
Hell, gcc didn't even get decent x86 (where x>4) support in a timely manner. Remember pgcc vs. gcc?
Take a look at the Force-12 Sigma-5 for a nice vertical for limited space. I've got it, 145' of wire running to an AH-4, and a 3 element 6m beam (what, you mean it isn't a TV antenna?) up with no neighbor complaints.
It would in the local area, but remember that HF signals propagate very well over long distances. This means that while the power may be out, say in Virginia due to a hurricane, the BPL pollution from a system in Georgia can still be interfering with emergency communications.
I've talked to HAMs in Arizona from Texas using 1 watt. I've also worked Antarctica with 20, also from Texas.
Well, I'm not sure about the Apple 2 series, but I've been thinking about this for my VAX. It's got this little firmware issue. It won't boot off of a disc larger than 1 g. Those drives are getting a little harder to find, and having something like this would help.
I'd like to quickly point out that morality in does not require you to follow written laws. Morals are something that each invidual decides for themselves. Legally, copyright infringement is against law. Morally, it depends entirely on the situation.
Would you infringe someone else's copyright to save a life? Would you be morally wrong for doing so?
You're right. I should have clarified that. What I actually meant was in this case it's wrong. I'm sorry for the confusion
Please try to ignore all of the rhetoric on both sides and look at the facts. The vast majority of MP3s out there were not created with the artist's or the record company's consent. Wether or not they "deserve" the money is besides the point. MP3s are no different than warez because in both cases the rightful owner of the copyright didn't give permission for the copy to be made.
Remember the flap about Be using some ethernet drivers without following the terms of the license? Is this any different? I don't think so.
Why is it that the fact that the copyright on the material in question is owned by some large corporation changing perspectives so much? Fundamentally, the amount of wealth and power that the copyright holder has shouldn't be altering the equation one bit.
Making copies without the copyright holder's permission is wrong, both morally and legally.
I read this book about three years ago and fell in love! It has amazing character development and a great story line.
I'd thought the same thing about the Monks == Irish, etc. especially after reading "How The Irish Saved Civilzation" a few months ago. That's also a great book if you're into history...

These PC based PVRs are interesting, but they don't seem to have the ability to handle the higher channels that digital cable and/or satellite offer.
So, how does one, living here in Dallas, do an unattended record of something on the SciFi channel (161) and then something on NBC (5)?

Well... the interrupt would be pretty spectacular.
