Instead of relying on personal experience, try looking up your CPU from history in here:
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php
The cpus date back to an Celeron 600mhz (Probably one of those Slot A types) up to current.
Using the numbers from that link also, that cpu gets a "passmark" of 103.
A current i7 3930k gets 13567.
In other words, it is over 131 times faster.
