Are you paid by the number of articles? I mean - nobody writes stuff like you for free. Because it all boils down to this: Russia, in breach of the Budapest agreement, occupied the Crimea. The so called referendum has been rejected by the vast majority of the UN. Russia is now using regular troops to fight the military of a sovereign nation. Which again is a breach not only of the Budapest agreement, but also several other international agreements like the Helsinki Accords. Whatever reasons Putin-lovers may pull out of the hat to explain their point of views - one simple fact remains: Russia started a war against a neighbor. And that is - in my humble opinion, unacceptable and should be met with the utmost resistance.

  2. I don't understand on Choose Your Side On the Linux Divide · · Score: 1

I've been working on, developing for and using Linux since 0.94 . I am currently trying to understand the idea of systemd. I almost never have to reboot my linuxes (not even on my laptops), even if I reboot, those SSDs makes it quick, I am glad that I can grep or find -exec grep through the whole system to find stuff I need, I find the idea of cryptic (or even binary) config files repulsing (vs. bash scripts) and un-unix, network-manager is the first thing I disable (who needs it anyway/). systemd gives me nothing in return for trying to understand it. It kind of feels like se-linux. Sounds like a good idea, unless you do something the packagers didn't expect .. like moving the database-files somewhere else or gosh! roll you own servers. Than you ether need to go down and dirty or echo "0" > /selinux/enforce .. oh wait, it's now /sys/fs/selinux ... I don't know why the development of Linux has changed to focus on 'Lindows' (I know .. ) .. but for us server folks, the direction doesn't seem to look good. I simply hope that somebody (maybe even myself) will spawn a server focused Linux that concentrates on stability, easy maintenance and reliability instead of gimmicks.

Great. Now we have two kernels to deal with.

  4. The Global Harming on Did Mozilla Have No Choice But To Add DRM To Firefox? · · Score: 1

We are losing the battle against the forces of the dark side. UEFI, DRM, https-proxies, uncontrolled intrusion of governments, net neutrality, the community has been beaten .. no whipped on almost all topics. Why? Because a lot of us are just too lazy to fight. It's easy to bitch on Facebook, ./ or Twitter. But it doesn't change things. We are about to be demoted from being owners of the Internet to 'users' of a digital transport medium. What does that mean? It will be harder and harder to bring innovation to the people, it will become almost impossible to inform the public about security problems and risks. You will see pay walls and DMCA warnings popping up everywhere. And you will pay through your noses for all kinds of stuff that used to be free. We all we be tracked, controlled, analyzed and exploited by some mindless stupid program somewhere trying to make sense of our latest purchases. The few of us in the "know" will withdraw to some remote digital islands, but the rising waters of the "global harming" of the Internet will soon wash away all traces of the Internet as it was meant to be. Mozilla used to be a force against the global harming. But they are no longer. Their digital levees will not be able to contain the global harming of the DRM modules and, within a few months or years, they will become useless. Innovation and FOSS made the Internet a great place to be. Greediness will take it down. It was wrong for Mozilla to accept DRM. But understandable. Because they are not sure if they can still rely on the "community" to come to their defense if needed. So they played it safe in order to survive. Its sad. But understandable. And realistic.
