    According to Pricewatch, you can get 1GB of PC133 memory (4 x 256MB) for $180. 1GB Ramdisks are already pretty cheap. Heh.

    You can buy two 512MB sticks of PC133 memory for the price of a single copy of Windows 2000 Professional. Requiring 128MB of memory to run WinXP is like requiring shirt and shoes to eat in a restaurant. It shouldn't even need to be mentioned, but some redneck bastard did it once, and now everyone has to post a sign.

    I'm not sure this is true. How much did shoes cost in 1985, before Nike introduced the Cross Trainer?
    I don't remember them costing $100, even adjusted for inflation. What is that, a full day's pay for the average american?
    I think the idea of what a shoe costs has changed before, and it could change again.

    That's hilarious.. Dual P3-1GHz, GeForce2 Ultra, 512MB PC133, and I still look forward to the day when I can play Quake3 in 1024x768, or with FSAA enabled. Maybe the NV20 will let me pick one of those two..

    You're assuming that each pixel only has one texture or lighting pass applied to it, which hasn't been true for years. Modern games can hit 6. Also, you're tossing out the possibility of anti-aliasing.. 4x4 supersampling will multiply your fill-rate requirement by a factor of 16. Sticking with your 36Mpixels/sec number, to get the same performance in an app with 4x anti-aliasing and 5 passes, you need 2.88 BILLION pixels/sec.. That's quite a bit more.

    1. Love is just brain chemistry.
    2. Women do that because of natural selection. See: "The Moral Animal" by Robert Wright.
    3. It could still easily be profitable.. If you made enough clones of various genotypes, you'd have a pretty good chance of finding a "donor" for a patient. If you did, you could sell it. They don't have to be custom-grown, just as good or better than the donor system we have now.

    Have you actually used the latest Windows Media encoder? It's easily the most impressive CODEC I've run into.. Try comparing it to DiVx and see who comes out on top.
    In fact, just last night I was comparing some footage I got from one of my Laserdiscs.. Quicktime vs. DiVx vs. Type-2 DV vs. Windows Media 8.
    Windows Media is excellent. Too bad you can't serve it or view it without Windows boxes.

    Personally, I use e-mail and email interchangeably, depending on the "tone" of the sentence. If I was a man-eating space alien, I'd spell human "hu-man."
