I used to have the same opinion on Norton. However, recently I was hired by a shop that uses/sells Norton exclusively. The 2010 and 2011 versions aren't that bad. They fix infected drivers pretty well, a quick scan only takes a few minutes max on a p4/512mb system, and have a detection rate on par with what I've seen from Vipre or MSE. I'm not saying its the best, I'm just saying its not the worst.
Does anyone here use bing as their primary search engine? or even at all? The times I've used it I got useless results and just ended up at google anyways. What do you guys use it for?
Please tell us then, how long should a company support old software? Forever? Until the last user logs off? XP has been out since 2001. Are there other companies that offer support on products almost a decade old? A few of my clients run businesses on Macs, and I can tell you for damn sure that they don't. Maybe you should find fault with the 3rd party vendors that won't release software that works on new platforms. Vista has been out since 06 or 07 are you telling me that 3 years is too little time to get with the program?
but showmypc is a pretty convenient remote help tool. As a plus its easy enough to walk a user through finding and installing.
My only problem with it is personal.
One time I was telling a female customer who called in to go to "show my pc dot com" but she didn't hear me clearly and took a great deal of offense at the website name I had just given her. Now I feel dirty every time I do remote work.
I have been using MSE when I need to install a free AV on a machine for a while now, and it hasn't blown up on me yet. Only on home user machines though- I recommend Vipre for windows and sophos for mac to all my business customers
I'm an IT Contractor and I gotta tell you- after having to deal with "The Director's Assistant"(buggy, confusing, expensive funeral home software) a number of times I could get behind ditching proprietary software- not out of any moral or philisophical convictions, I just want the sadistic bastards that make and "support" this garbage to disappear
