I could buy a normal light-bulb for about $0,20 in the local supermarket... I just can not imagine that this is a good deal......Even if it does mean that the Arctic will lose an ice cube or two less...
And they didn't change mine... Not even quietly. Maybe if the leave the old big one behind, I can put it under my pillow tonight. Then, when the processor-ferry comes around, I will end up with some shiny coins as well!
When do we stop chasing that ghost and get over it? Really... The big freeze, acid rain, a gap in the ozon layer, and now this witch hunt. *sigh* Can we, for the sake of Cowboy Neal, just stop doing this, get real and do some real science?
It all sounds like: Sir Bedevere: What makes you think there is global warming? Peasant: Well, the global warming turned me into a newt! Sir Bedevere: A newt? Peasant: -meekly-... I got better. Crowd: (shouts) Stop driving your car anyway!!!
It's just a matter of time you know... if enough people go there, it's just a waiting matter before:
- space hippies go collect garbage (and re-invent the cradle2cradle concept, making nice new stuff from spacejunk);
- greenpeace goes there with big solarsail-made-into-banners;
- Al Gore will say he invented space and then make a movie about how terrible the whole spacejunk problem is;
- We will see spacejunk-sceptics;
And when they are all up in arms, here on/. we will discuss the next big thing... terraforming Mars. Someone will say that is a bad Idea, and I would say: It's just a matter of time you know... if enough people go there, it's just a waiting matter before:
- Space hippies will go there hugging the marstrees
- Greenpeace will go there and... well you get the point huh?:-D
You are right in the fact that most religions are not "at ease" with science, but it is rather dramatic in the Muslim world at large. That is why they are banging on that "inshala" (as Alah wishes) phrase all day, and not practising real science. Actually, in some interpretations believing in cause-and-effect is basically the same as saying Allah has no role. I can tell you that it is very 'not so nice' if you get accused of that.
You are right that the government of Iran is not the same as "Muslims", but it IS a theocratic regime, based on the Quran, the Sunnah, the Hadith, the Sharia and so on. The people who submit to Allah (and his teachings through Mo) are called Muslim.
Oh, and before you pull out the racist/ignorant or whatever card, I actually would say the same things about ANY other religious fanclub, but somehow there is hardly anything to say about them in regard to shutting off (parts of) the Internet. Or silencing their citizens/followers.
Glad to see Muslims are allowed free access to information by their religious leaders. The leaders must know that better info is the surest way to a deep religious understanding of the Quran. Oh... wait... what?
Good one. Point taken!
