Oh man, this has to be illegal. Humorous anyway. Lets hope andover isnt the law suit type.

I read a comment here saying about how each name goes for about 15 bucks a pop. Perhaps it would get more customers to join in if they gave some money to the customers, cause I will put up with junk mail for money as I'm sure alot of other people would. Also, that would help them to get more people involved.

There are precautions around that. Sure, there are loop holes in that law, but when you are doing buisness with a company and they are getting your address, make sure you say "Other then the shipping and billing, I would like all other uses for my address to be restricted". If it's an online based company, find a telephone # or give them a ring. Save e-mails. Make sure you bitch. If a satisfied customer is a good customer, then the quiet customer is the best one and they will do anything to make sure you are a quiet one.

  4. What this is going to Cause on FTC Seeks Battle With Toysmart · · Score: 1

Recently, upon signing up for services, I always provide my right address, but actions like this will cause me to have 2 e-mail addresses, a real one and a fake one. And if a company is trying to get out a deal or something, there is going to be alot of attention missed. And if people check that they dont want to receive any of these things, do what a respectable comapny would do and honor their request, as that is a sign of a honorable company. And nowadays, consumers aren't only looking for the cheapest price, but will pay that extra dollar for a good company. But don't worry... when news like this gets out, indiviuals will shun the company that released those addresses and coany's that accepted that kind of buisness, and it will be survival of the fittest in the buisness, where the fit respect the consumer.

thank you, thank you, i bow in pleasure. but seriously though, havent you guys got calls and then say "remove me from your company list" or when you go online and it says "do you want us to send your email for you to get special deals" and your privacy is clearly protected if you dont want these thigns.

true, but internet access can establish a basis for a thriving economy (i mean, look what it did for our stock market) and in the end, there will be food for all. im not at all disagreeing, however, the fact that food should be provided as well, but in the long run, this will be most beneficial.

not only for latin america, but other countries with sterotypes pinned on them like poverty. with all these high speed access things coming out and new sites and the such, it is easy for forget that there are people out there that dont have the first clue about the internet, and much like things like books, it is a resource that should be readily avalible to all.

"And the repercussions of this current technological revolution will dwarf the changes that were brought about by previous advances. We now live in an era in which a few clicks of your mouse will make it possible for you to summon every book ever written in any language, every movie ever made, every television show ever produced, and every piece of music ever recorded." And I guess the books can only be read by, the television shows and movies can only be seen by and the music can only be heard by those with money. Napster can be seen as a medium like a radio station, where you have the ability to hear a song and what you do with it is as you choose. I can easily record a song from the radio and I can just as easily download a song from napster. It seems like the only way to achieve luxuries such as education and entertainment is through corporate ways.

  13. Such Moral on Update On "Voices From The Hellmouth" · · Score: 1

I see alot of people mentioning how Slashdot is buckling to the "beast", referring to the law and becoming a typical web sterotype. I see this as completely the opposite. Had it been Microsoft faced with a similar situation, they would have tried to cover it up, and quite possibly have been right in doing so as most people would love to have the oppurtunity to sue such a rich, disrespected company. But here, out comes some people, admitting their mistakes, and people critize it? I believe that Slashdot witheld its reputation by accepting the responsibility and apologizing and shouldn't have much problems following this. After all, making a mistake is human, making the same mistake twice is stupidity.
