I agree with seebs. I thought he got his ideas across very clearly and intelligently. It's fallacious to try and decry his arguments simply because he doesn't have a degree in English. He made an excellent case for his side.
Imagine the quality of the recording after that many generations of duplication. That is _entirely_ different from making exact digital copies with the exact same fidelity and quality.
Having a CS background, I understand the importance of solving P=NP, but what is the importance of the other problems? Obviously people think they are very important problems to solve. What great mysteries unravel upon solving them, though? In the case of Fermat's last theorem, proving it didn't really affect math or physics much. (or did it?) Are these any different, or just "curiosity" problems?
Who would spend that kind of money on a system and then run Linux on it? If you've got the money to afford a system like that, you might as well shell out the extra few dollars and get an OS that can handle that many processors. I'm sure the people who buy these things aren't thinking, "Duh, it'd be real keen-o if I ran Linux on this thing. Golly gee, I wonder if I could play Quake3 on it."
What's sad is that you think you have a RIGHT to privacy on the Internet. As soon as your signal has left your house (via Napster, FTP, whatever) you have just waived that right and they are FREE to anything they want to that data stream including monitor. Don't whine if you get caught pirating music in a PUBLIC forum (or medium in this case). Even if Napster provides the forum, you're still responsible for your own actions. Little kids don't understand this, but their parents will definately be interested in the legal documents. Besides, what do you care if Metallica buries themselves? You weren't supporting them anyway...
> As many people undoubtedly will point > out, "real programmers" don't use IDEs. "Real" programmers don't make bonehead statements like this. "Real" programmers use whatever it takes to get the job done with the best quality in the shortest amount of time. If you're going to develop exclusively for Windows, you'll find that using the Visual tools (or possibly CodeWarrior for Win) is far superior to cross-developing from Unix. I've done both. It's okay to be anti-Microsoft, but don't let anti-Microsoft politics/feelings impede your business... Get your job done first.
And pray tell, how did you HEAR him talking?

I think MOST people have a hole in their manifold, they just don't make noise and emit stink from it publicly ;)
Stop saying those two words! My dick is getting tired...

Who cares? They all stole from Bell Labs and AT&T anyway...
I've got $50 that says you don't even know who Ralph Nader is.
I would rather have a machine which would print out transcripts of the closed-captioning.
