And often, these squatted domains tell nothing to an inexperienced person that the company's web page ISN'T just a large number of banner ads, as there's nobody to TELL them that they typed the wrong address (What, this is 777-1534, not 777-1234? Sorry, I'm an assface.), and I doubt they'd think to look at the URL box to see if they typed the correct address.
Note that I assume total human stupidity here, which is pretty much a given.
