I can tell you why the life expectancy of older people in the UK is lower than in the US, the diet of people in the UK is horrible...even compared to the US which doesn't have a great diet to start with.
I am an American living in England I can't believe what these people eat. For breakfast they have bacon sandwiches, that is just bacon and bread - maybe some baked beans on top of it or ketchup, but that is it. Then for lunch they eat fish and chips smothered in malt vinegar - maybe some mushy peas if that. For dinner they have cottage pie, where the veggies are just to give it a bit of color. They also have a few pints of ale a day.
With a diet like that how can you expect to live long? Of course the people in London eat a bit healthier, but many of them are not English. I live in the real England, where I am the only foreigner.
