Also: genes. As advanced as they may be, it's hard to imagine they could 'predict' the biological evolution of all of the billions of living specimens our pretty little zoo has...
The REAL reason why we'll never meet aliens is really much more simple: If they do have the tech to get to Earth they also have the tech to hide themselves from us while doing so.
I think the author needs to read up on Fermi's paradox a bit...
