  1. Comments to tell what the tab was on Spaces vs. Tabs? · · Score: 1

It seems to me like tabs are the best way to let everyone have their own preference. I know this can lead to wierd formatting later on, so why not just stick a big fat comment at the top to say what tab size was used to make the file and will make it look like the author saw when he was writing it?

Actually that's not bare metal, its the primer. Otherwise they corrode. Look it up sometime, you'll see.

I saw this thread and decided to check it out, and now I can't moderate either, it gives me the same error about not being a user long enough. Strange part is, I metamoderated last week, so I wonder what changed now?

  4. Re:$600 is quite a bit. on Is There A Market For A Voice Controlled MP3 Car Stereo? · · Score: 1

First off, I have done this, and mine costs about $600. I have a web pages at www.krazykarl.com, but there isn't much there yet due to school, but as soon as the summer comes, I'll get it looking better. These do work well. As far as audio quality, the retail cost of my system WITHOUT the computer or any installation labor is over $5000, so I have good sound. I would like to say that yes, mp3's are somewhat lacking in quality, but when you are going down the highway at 75 MPH, you can't tell. The bass is all there, and the highs are still clear. I'm going to try to make it to some stereo competitions in Iowa this summer, so if I see an interest I'll make sure I get it posted so people can come see it. As far as control goes, I see no point to voice. All it does is require a celeron class machine when just a P5-166 will play the mp3's. Right now I have mine hooked up to a numeric keypad, but I am experimenting with a wireless remote as well as integrating buttons into the steering wheel. If you really want to see this take off, drop the voice control because of two reasons: it does not work as effectively as well designed button remote controls, and people will be skeptical of voice recognition. It will be a long time before voice control is predictable enough for people to trust it and want to spend money on it sight unseen. Even if you can demo it for them, people will be skeptical because you can't train it to recognize their voice, sure its easy to make it run by your voice, but other people won't see that they can easily make it recognize theirs too. check out my car www.krazykarl.com

I actually thought about putting an LCD in the dash, but "real time" video is illegal in all 50 states, so I never did it. I suppose I could always hook up a cheap cam to the rear and say it was for backup purposes, but its not worth messing with to me.

I wanted to be able to have 100's of CDs in my car without having them roll around and get scratched too. I just stuck an old 3.2 gig hard drive in a case with a cheap motherboard and hooked it up to my stereo. I wrote a little linux interface to xaudio that controls it via a keypad between the front seats. It really turned out nice for me, holds 650 or so so tracks, only cost about $400, and it only takes about 35 seconds to start up. Check it out!
