I work in a fairly high tech CNC machine shop, we use windows and so do all of our customers. Many of our customers are very large companies that deal on the world market. Even aircraft companies that we deal with are making their product with Solidworks/CATIA on windows platforms.
I can't speak for other "engineering" fields, but the the Mechanical Engineering field from my perspective seems to be dominated solely by the windows platform.
