  1. Diversity on Be to Drop BeOS? No. · · Score: 1
I am not a BE person. I am stuck with WinDoze, but am slowly moving to Linux. Issues I see here are.

    1. This only solidifies the Monopoly that M$ holds on the OS market. BE made a good effort and resulted in fairly good OS that seemed to have a growing following. M$'s control is so great that a company has given up its development on their OS solely on the fact that another company has complete control of that market.

    2. This plain blows that they gave up. They shouldn't give up completely. At least keep some guys on the project. Maybe they will. News is sketchy. I like rooting for the underdog. Some may have a problem with BE because it controlled by a company and not like the GPL and GNU world of Linux. I don't mind a company control of an OS as long as they don't become an M$ rooted in controlling a very expansive and highly creative market. Company control breeds a centralized system of management of an OS. The fact is that we need more quality OSes other than Linux. I wish Apple would do more in the OS field and expand to other platforms. Their OS has its problems but it is a time tested and quality OS. Diversity is a very good thing in all things.

  2. USB mouse and keyboard on Linux And The PowerPC Architecture · · Score: 1

Why is everyone crazy about USB mouse and keyboard. I don't need a expensive USB mouse running a super speeds that USB offers. I know those keyboards "really" need that thoughput. What is wrong with using the old, proven and sane solution we have been using for years. Plus I don't want to buy USB hubs just so I could add extra USB devices because some of my slots are taken up by stupid USB keyboard and mouse. Lets use USB for things that should be used for, Devices that benefit from USB thoughput, like printers, scanners, Digital Cameras and other stuff like that. Plus I don't like the idea of loading devices on one bus. If your USB controller fries, you can't use anything that was on that USB. It would be even worse if your keyboard is using USB. What are you gonna do, spit at your computer till you get a new board or controller. I haven't ever seen a keyboard port fail. I am sure they have, but rarely. Another thing is that some of us computer guys don't have mega bucks to spend on USB.

  3. Cheap video editing on What Do You Use For Digital Video Editing? · · Score: 1

If you are looking for a cheap ass setup for digital video. Take a look see at getting a capture card from Hauppauge($50), which is linux compatible, also a sound card. Quicktime Pro($30), making its way into linux, Any graphics program(Adobe, Paint Shop, of course GIMP). I have a 266 AMD, with only 32 megs, 6.4 gig drive and running WIN98(Sorry, i have been dumbed by M$) It works fine. You aren't going to be putting out any Pixar pictures, but it is a cheap and good start. Build from there and learn. It doesn't take a large video program to produce good video just takes resource-fullness and creativity. I made a semi-multimedia cd for my friend's band. It's not Epic records, but it was done on this setup. Check it out a http://www.crashed.net/wot.
