I am not sure that this is flame bait really. I like the Knuth books but MIX is just not really a good idea anyway you look at it. I realize that picking a language would have been hard and would have required a choice that would have "marked" his books but I must be honest I just about cannot read the 3 volumes that are often called the Bible of computer science just for that very reason.
It is true that you can have just as many security problems in Open Source, but those security problems are not hidden behind clever marketing. The code is out in the open and can be fixed by anyone who takes the time to do so.
Microsoft could even have a better track record than some Open Source systems and I think that I would still choose the open source way.
If you rely on obscurity to be your software security then you will lose every time. In the end it is the freedom to choose and to change in the open that makes a system secure.
Opera is pretty good too... Amaya is kind of hard to use I think though...
Given the choice I would pick Opera, then either Netscape or IE...
Arg... not too many choices really.
I think that I would pay for Slashdot. I read it everyday and the content is good.
I think that is the problem with paying for almost anything on the internet when you talk about content. There is a LOT of garbage and even incorrect information available on almost any subject on the internet. How would know that you getting good information?
You would almost have to setup sites that verify the information... maybe not even verify, just lend credibility to the content. Enough credibility for me to pay...
Why does everyone go for GPL'd software. I am beginning to think that this is just a status symbol.
I like Python a lot... I think I might like it a little less now.
Preach on brother. Years ago Netscape was cool and was a great product. Now at best it is a bunch of trying to build everything but the kitchen sink into it.
Gekko lives on. Throw out the rest.
No doubt, processors are cheap. And you are right, at some point all the trouble and equipment needed to overclock are going to cost more than the next processor anyway.
I guess your last 3d game engine sold as well as Quake did?
Look moron, just because you are a no talent idiot who got his mom's computer to post on slashdot does not mean you should tear down other people's work!!!
I have worked on the Quake 1 source and it is not easy. I do not care if it is 5 years old... I would guess that you are not much older.

I think the repayment I want is for them to leave me alone about Napster and Gnutella. I have to think that if CD's were reasonably priced there would be less pirate activity. I am not saying that it would be eliminated... there will still always be a core group of pirates (me included)... but if CD's were priced correctly there would be much less incentive.
This books has been translated to other programming languages (like C++ and Java)... so if Python is not for (it should be) you can read those too.

Anyway... my two cents

Is it just me or does real player suck ass!!!
Anybody have a copy of the video in some other format? I do not feel like infecting my machine with the Real Player Virus.
Can anyone see this video on Linux? Off topic I know, sorry.
I have road runner service. And without question the people running road runner are Satan.
Hey, Bluegrass is ok! :(
Though you never could get much of it on Napster.
As long as they cannot see when I am picking my nose. That would be cool if it turns out to really be her plane. We will see.

Irregardless is not a word...
Obviously you read it too moron. If it bothers you that much go read Deja or something.
