I'm tired of seeing this comment. Many people say they can make something good as my Tivo. Go ahead and do it already. I guess if you don't have one, you just don't understand that it is more than a linux box + capture card + snazzy web based interface.
But... please don't forget these things:
Does your linux box have svideo and rca out? Does your linux box have a cool remote control? Does your linux box pretty much work, with out much tweaking? Does your linux box have the powerful (albeit slow), interface to select programs by actor, director or other criteria? Who do you call when your linux box breaks?
I believe the Tivo represents a great deal, and the $12 or so dollars a month that I pay for the subscription is more than worth it
Of all people; I'd figure/.ers less likely to make assumptions.
You've got to be kidding me. For all my years in reading slashdot. I've come to see the "Slashdot Way." Most people do think alike, or do think how they are told.
I know the FSF has done many good things for the community. I know we wouldn't be anywhere withouth gcc or glibc or the bison. Come on FSF, I don't think this is the way to go about this.
The PM doesn't need to know how to lay the bricks, wire up, roof or plasters. The PM needs to know that bricks, wiring, roofing, and plastering are needed to make a building, and also needs to know who to contact to make it happen.
Who knows what Juno will be doing, they don't tell you.
Actually, if you read the article that was pointed to on Juno's site, you would realize that they are going to be using it for bioinformatics research. They even hired on a leader in the field to head up the project.
Apple has the Airport which can purchased for $299 at CompUsa, Circuit City and their own web site. I also think that DLink might have an accesspoint for $299 (I might of seen this at circuit city also).
Even though the Airport is an Apple product, it is configured through snmp. You can get a
java application to configure it. I use the Airport at my house as a transparent bridge which allows me to use my laptop anywhere in my house.

Good Grief

I didn't read kernel panic. I read that he had a panic when another sysadmin screwed up /etc/inetd.conf.
But another thing 450s have serial consoles. This really shouldn't of have been a big deal.
or the old DIGEX groups:
POT - Product Operations Team
DOPE - Department of Product Engineering

Actually, the speed limiter on most cars because of the rating on the tires. If you go over the tire's rated speed, all sort of bad things can happen.

The article mentions AIX and AS/400. And considering IBM's interesting in Linux, possibly that in the future.
Only if they plan on booting Windows 9x or the like. There is a free program to allow DOS to read NTFS partitions if need be.

Probally nothing, Cray is owned by SGI and they use MIPS.
That is why you should only use the automated editor to generate the layout. You can edit by hand later to clean up the clutter.
How many sysadmins have a bald head and wear timberlands to work. I just don't think the pony tail look would work for me.
