Why would the oil companies need to block super-efficient cars? The average car buyer doesn't appear to even care about fuel efficiency. My car, a 1995 Saturn SL1, gets about 35 MPG in the city and 42-46MPG on the highway. If people actually cared about fuel economy I wouldn't be surrounded by fscking SUVs, luxury sedans, and sport coups when I drive.
