In many instances you will find the entrepreneurs claiming that they are in fact the defenders of indivisualism-where an idea can be materialized into product of innovation and sometimes necessity. The corporations are entities that have obligations (such as taxes) and legal rights much like individuals. THey can sue and be sued..etc. I feel that the major purpose of corporations is to shield the people who invest in them from the feeling of direct personal responsibilities for one's resources and surroundings. People in this country for a reason refuse to subscribe to the notion that they are victims of classism. When certain events happen(such as Columbine high School, Elian kid from Cuba..), the real concerns take a backseat for a conveniently orchestrated sence of urgency towards exaggerated national crisis. How many people still feel so passionately about how racist this country still is? WHy is it that when corporations lay off thousands of people at their peak profit year and consequently order the slow death of the workers we all fail to show outrage? Individualism in my opinion is a symbolic lifestyle that encourages a sense of freedom and spiritual(not religious) triumph over abstract restrictions in life.
