Except for the fact that they will have no life, I envy the students who get this opportunity to explore the craft and art of computers.
I graduated with a BS in ChemE/CS from a state college a few years back. Except for one incredible master's level course in AI I found the CS degree a bit uninteresting (and the students a bit whiny) so I went to work as a ChemE. But then I came across SICP (Abelson's and Sussman's excellent tome) and Principles of Artificial Intelligence Programming (perhaps the best Lisp book ever written). I've been revisitng my CS education ever since, and finding the process of building software a pretty rich craft that I hope I get opportunity to explore at some point in my career.
I've also discovered that there is nothing worse than being a witness to horrible software design (pervasive at my ChemE dominated company) and not being in a position to do anything about it. I hope somebody from this program eventually comes to work for my company and that I have a chance to hook up!
Hear, hear,
