I highly recommend OSSEC (ossec.net). It will parse your system logs (SSH, Apache, ModSecurity, Snort, and others) and block attacker's IP addresses automatically. There's even a Wordpress plugin that will output to syslog and therefore OSSEC. For more information, please see:
